It would be nice if we could not edit our own posts. There is nothing more frustrating than either answering or questioning a post only to have that post change after you have done so. Case in point.....There was a post concerning the purchase of an accesory. The poster stated it was worth all the money he paid. I questioned what was so great about the product to make it worth the money spent. I now go back to look at the OP and the whole original post has changed. It was a total waste of my time and everyone else who answered his post now.

i think it's more helpful than hurtful. do you really think across the board (the tens of thousands of daily posts) this would be a good policy?

i probably edit about 30% of my posts for spelling and or clairification. often within seconds of posting when i notice a mistake. i'd really hate to lose that functionality.

It would sure force the poster to think real good before he hits the button. I have been a member of a few boards who did it the no edit way and it was never a problem. But I do see what you are saying as well Tim.

I would say I edit 30% of my posts based on rethinking. I sometimes say things quickly and realize that they might not understand the context, forcing me to do a small rewrite to make it clearer :)

Pfft you don't need to remove the edit feature.
Just append a "edited at such time" at the end of the post everytime it is edited.

Standard forum feature.

Well 2 solutions...

1. Like operator said above, and edit tag under the edited post
or
2. Have say an 'edit post' time limit of 15min - 30min after you have posted and when that time has elapsed you can no longer edit or delete the post. This would work because you have enough time to go over your post and fix anything up before people start replying.

I like those ideas if they are do-able

Or just click [reply w/ quote] when you respond. That way, if the OP edits his/her post, the original (or at least the version you responded to) is saved in your post, which the OP can't edit.
