BMX - I am new at this and I need advice?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Alright guys, I am 27, I just bought my son a Haro Nyquist Two he is 6 years old. I would also like to get myself a BMX bike so that I could get crazy with him and maybe break a bone or two. I am still in very good shape and I am sure I could handle quite a bit of abuse. I am 5'8 and I weight 155 pounds, What bikes you guys think I should be looking at. So far I have been looking at the Haro Nyquist 2 and the GT Bump. What do you guys think? Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks Guys.

Buy the nyquist 2, it will be fine for an intro bike. Those pegs may be a bit heavy. Take em off when you get the bike. Welcome to the forums, watch out for the grumps and grommets.

[edit]What is the Top Tube length of his bike and what are you considering for yours? If he is 6 and you bought a 20" already, you may want to get him a 19" or even go smaller and keep the nyquist2 for yourself.

[edit] only nyquist 2 I could find online said it was a 20.6" TT. Buy your son an 18" bike and when your ready for a new bike you can pass yours down to him.

If you have the money (like 550 or more) go build a custom one... get different parts from different companies... otherwise, get a felt, a demolition, or a volume...

yeah... if you have the money, get a complete, otherwise, felt, volume, or emolitions are all good...go to (name of company).com for all 3

Demolition doesn't even make completes. It's nothing more than the generic parts company that Brian Castillo runs in addition to Volume (which - for the record - doesn't produce very good frames).

There should be some sort of test or proof of qualifications before kids can post stuff. We'd have less people going on about things they know nothing about. At least I have the sense to not try and give advice on things I don't know.

Why do u need a custom for your first bike?? Why do you need to build the custom with those sh*tty parts you recomend?? How can you build a nice custom for 550$, 1 piece cranks and single wall rims?? Why cant you just stop talking??

I've already built all my jumps out on my trails with some of his help but basically my freind helped me. Basically my dad helped with how i should build it and he let me use are kubota backhoe(since we have a small farm and 15 acers) to get dirt out there. But I'm workin on gettin him out there. He also tought me almost every thing I know about Machanes and how to fix them and build things.
