Road Cycling - Anyone make a white road hub?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I work at a bicycle shop, and I also build a wheelset every now and then. I was entertaining the idea of building myself a new road wheelset. Ideally, I want white hubs, black spokes, and black rims. I think that would look awesome! I want something different other than the typical silver everything. I have looked through all the shop catalogs I can find, but it seems that no one makes a white road hub. SRAM has the white 9.0 SL mtb hub, which I have on my mtn bike.. it rocks and looks great, and is quite light. Does anyone know of a place to get white road hubs?

Unless you are concerned about the extra few grams of weight you could certain use the SRAM hub and replace the axle with a shorter one, 137 mm if remember correctly, to achieve the standard 130 mm road dropout width. I had a custom wheel built for my hybrid which has mtb type 135 mm dropout width. The shop used an XT hub to accomodate the wider dropouts. I learned later that I could have used a regular road hub and replace the axle with a longer one. No big deal.

Thanks.. I had thought about that, but I never really looked into it. I took a closer look at my 9.0 SL hub on my mountain bike, and it looks like there's a 2.5mm spacer on each side just before the locknut. I think I can get away with removing this spacer, and then a shorter axle will work.

Yep. That's basically what you do. Your LBS probably has the right length axle, just standard road length. Heck they might give you one out of the old parts box.
I'm a big believer in not leaving well enough alone. :D
