I hopped on th ebike today for my commute, and after riding down th eroad 1 mile, I hit the first small hill. As soon as I stood up and started putting some pressure on the crank, I heard the sound of my freewheel getting worse as I have feared. It is old, and was making a nice crunching sound when I danced onthe pedals.
So, I turned back, and called it quits for today. I don't need the pawls to fracture, and end up stuck on the road waiting for the wife to come pick me up.

What irks me, is that this bike is an Old Centurion with a Suntour group, and Suntour GPX hubs.

I need to find a cheap 7spd 13-24 freewheel that will work on a Suntour hub. Suntour is hard to find, and when you do, they are pricey.

Found this one on the Nashbar site, but it says SIS compatible. I wonder if it will fit on a Suntour hub. If not, I may have to find a shop in town who has one, and pay through the nose to get one that fits.

Seems like a lot of trouble for an old hub, unless you keep a stock of very cheap spare parts around. Any reason not to run a Shimano or some other rear hub that has more readily-available parts? If you are DIY-inclined, parts for a replacement wheelbuild could be had pretty cheap with some judicious bidding on that big auction site.
