Winter Cycling - Anyone have the Lake MXZ301 boot?

I think it's brand new for this year. It looks like the MXZ300 with an easier fastening system... Which was what everyone complained about in the 300.

I was hoping someone could say whether it is SPD compatible? I assume it is but I didn't see anything on their web site that said for sure.

Also how comfortable it is etc.

The MXZ300 is SPD compatible and offers removable toe studs. A must have to ride comfortable under the freezing mark.

On both the 300's(last years) and 301's....considering people are usually wearing ski-type socks underneath....would I need to order an extra size or half-size up?? I'm worried that if I get the size I usually wear that they might be too small or not stretch like regular shoes if they're snug.

Are the CX road model just as warm as the MX off road model?

I ordered these a size larger than my summer shoes and when I tried them on with mid-weight wool socks they feel just about right. They came with a little packet of Nikwax for waterproofing. What are people's experiences with the Nikwax on the Lake shoes?

You may consider buying two pairs and returning the one that doesn't fit. Most people recommend buying them overly large. But unless you KNOW what the Lake lasts are like, you have no real idea about what their particular sizing system is.

This is the truth. I have two different Lake's the MX101 in 46 wide and CX 200 in 47. Both fit my wide feet pretty well although the CX 200's are a little long. So I tried the Lake Sandals in a 47 expecting them to fit pretty well. Well the sandals were way to long and barely wide enough. I guess that because they use a Shimano sole for the Sandal and not one based on thier own shoes.
So I'm curious to here if the Lake MX300 or MX301s run wider or narrower than thier other shoes.

I nikwaxed my 300s (before I even realised they included a little tube in the box), the leather in the Lake's really seems compatible with nikwax, I am very satisfied with the results.

It might be barely enough. I gave all the leather areas a thorough coat, let it soak in for awhile and then rubbed off the excess, then I gave the toe-box a second treatment. The hardest part is keeping it off the neoprene areas.

So what size US do you wear and what size did you order? The last time i tried to go up a size in metric to accomodate winter socks i didn't get a large enough shoe. It seems the increments are smaller between metric.

One size up seemed fine to me. I wear a 12 or 13 US. My regular cycling shoes are 46 and the Lake shoes are 47s.

I have had a few days to ride with the New Lake 301's...
They are GREAT!
I got size 48, which is a PERFECT FIT for my size 13.5 (US)
I wear 48 (14 US) in Answer shoes. (seems no Two Companies are the same size)

But the Toe Box feels great! I have worn heavy socks already to test them.
They are the Warmest I have ever had.
No more Booties unless I wear my Summer Shoes.

Only Problem I see for OTHER people is.... SIZE

I am thinking the sizing is Right on the Money for LAKE Shoes.

I wear a 13.5 US and the Lake 48 fits like a Glove! (with room for a little heavier sock)

EGG, I always wear a 14. Do to the fact I have 13.5 feet. I tend to look for the WIDE SHOES as well.
These 301's work well for me.

When you buy the 301's, I know you will, get the 48's, BUT! (there's always a BUT in life) make sure of the RETURN POLICY where you buy them.

Walkafire, how restrictive is the upper on the 301s? Can you use the ankle at all in the pedal stroke, or is it eliminated by the support provided by the uppers?.. I am recovering from a broken lower leg and am hoping the support of the 301s will help me return(still at least 3 weeks left in cast and I will start with windtrainer first for a while) does the upper feel like it provides support that may help me here?...

Treating the leather with the Nikwax made the lower part pretty close to waterproof, but I couldn't keep my pants down low enough to cover the neoprene cuffs which let water in and eventually soaked my feet. The shoes are probably pretty warm in dry conditions, but I don't really see the point of having them if I still have to wear shoe covers in the wet anyway.

I ordered a similar boot and this style tends to bind at the ankle as you walk over to the bike. Not sure whether to send them back. How are these for chaffing at the calf/ankle?

Just got mine today. Will be reporting on them after some miles. Seems to pretty comfy and came with some nice screw-in metal toe cleats.
For sizing: I wear a Sidi 47 Mega and the Lake 47's are same length and a bit narrower. Real leather should stretch a bit, though.

well... so far so good here....

I have worn these in a Snow storm that turned into a Down Pour of RAIN.

My Feet stayed DRY. As far as Pants, I wear Triflex Tights from Performance, they Tuck into the Lake 301 shoes. Everything is dry.

As far as constricting, I found these boots/shoes very comfortable, I have walked to a few houses here delivering Cub Scout Popcorn (Grrrrrr) yeah it happens LOL

I guess it's what you like, I like these for sure.

What do you expect lake to do about that. For those conditions, you should probably gaiters to seal up between your pants and your shoes. In addiiton, you can wear Seal Skinz Socks underneath.

I know I could use those things, but I guess I expected a bit more from the shoe. Obviously, most people are pleased with them; I was just giving my opinion.
