Anybody want to buy my bottled water (and batteries, canned food, toilet paper, magazines...and some rural property, real nice)?

If you believe in this stuff, do something real about it, like move to the inner cities where some crack babies live.

Man, screw the toilet paper, we need all the batteries we can get out here in California! :D I was thinking of gettin' out my bamboo bike and a couple of coconuts to generate some electricity out her in preparation for the summer blackouts/brownouts! ;) Don't even get me started on the "Top 10 Ways to Prevent California's Rolling Blackouts"!

Technogirl, I just read that California is also having trouble with wild mountain lions going into residential areas and eating pets.

There may be a solution here.

I propose gathering up all those mountain lions (big cats, really), and combing them with plastic combs. Use the static electricity to power hair dryers, air conditioners, and latte machines.

We did a similar experiment in grade school. It really works, except we didn't actually power a hair dyer. The cat's hair sure stood on end, though. Does that count?

I'm for something a little more practical, Mike. I propose harnessing the latent static electricity
which could be generated by thousands of joggers, cyclists and rollerbladers (do you think that's
why some of them have hair that stand straight up?). Just retro-fit their shoes or wheels with
the right kinds of synthetic materials. :cool:

You could have joggers and bikes wear silk long underwear and wool outerwear. If nothing else, they could power their own bike lights and recharge batteries.

That would be cool. But maybe they won't need lights! And you would need to post electrocution warnings for sweaty Sumo wrestlers, but you just can't cover every eventuality of a new invention.

Well, I could have generated a lot of juice this morning after my front shifter cable snapped. I should have known, it seemed to have loosened more than normal stretching causes. Anyway, I sure got in some fast spinning training on that first chainring. I'll stop by the bike shop on the way home (in an area known as "Little Five Points", where all those static-haired dudes hang out) and give them some business. Makes me think: if my car's transmission went out, it sure would cost more than $3.50 to fix!
