BMX - fianlly, but a little help needed.

well i have a haro x2 backtrail. its a mini 18inch frame and im 6, 1 so thats a bit short for me.

this guy is selling his s&m for cheap (because it has two dents), and I am no thta good yet. (manuals, 1802, 360 tire taps, and well im a beginner), but I PRACTICE A LOT, yay!

anyways, since its only the frame, he said my cranks (1pc) would fit, so hes gonna throw in 3pc cranks for 175.

now,
would I still be able to use my forks? (if yea then the front wehel is covered and i dont use front brakes).
and i guess ill just ask him if the 3pc cranks would fit on my 44t sprocket.

hes giving me his headset, and i heard from a couple of guyz that the bearings are very good. so I guess i can run my old bars?

second main question: since this bike is i think 21 inch top tube, that would make the difference between the sprokect and driver larger, which would mean I would need to get a bigger chain? or would it still fit?

and last question: I have the answers to these questions but i cant understand them.

whats a 4pawl hub?
whats a bottom bracket? I mean its just a hole where the crank peice would go so whats so important about it? whas the difference between euro bb, and american bb?

get a smaller chainring and freewheel or casset drive if you have a casset hub and yes... all that stuff will fit

also, a euro bottom bracket is smaller... check that the cranks and bottom bracket r the same size

How cheap, exactly? Seems to me if a frame has several dents the structure of it is probably not as good as it was new. If it was aluminum or CF, it'd be worthless but maybe if it's cromoly it won't be too bad...

The top tube doesn't really have anything to do with how long the chain needs to be - the number you'd be looking for is chainstay length. If it's going on the same (or same size) chainring and cog, and the chainstays are about the same, it *might* work.

Bottom brackets are the piece that goes between the cranks and basically holds them to the frame, and part of it spins around when you turn the cranks. Usually it's seperate for road bikes or MTB's, but it would come with a 3-piece crankset (or a one piece)

It has two dents in it. I hanvt seen the frame yet but you know I am not that good. And I am not going to be doing anything crazy. Ill proabbly ride it out next summer, and buy a new frame in two years.

Whats the difference between a cog, freeshweel, and driver? or are all of those things the same thing ? just the names are different for different types of hubs.

You'll probably need a longer chain. If your old forks take a 1-1/8" headset, they should work fine. Your chainring should fit fine, you may need a spacer. Get a smaller one when you have the cash. The headset has nothing to do with your bars. If the forks fit, the stem fits, you can use your old bars. A 4 pawl hub has twice as many pawls as a 2 pawl hub. They're the bits inside that engage to make you go forward when you pedal. The bottom bracket is technically the bottom tube of your frame, where the cranks mount. It's also what some people call the spindle that fits in there. You need to know what your new frame has, in order to get the proper spindle. American is the big one, since way back. Euro is the newer one, which is smaller.

Dents in the frame means he rode it hard, dont waste your money. For $175 you could get a NEW intro-level bike on sale, try www.danscomp.com

A cog is the piece that fits on a freewheel. A freewheel is the type of hub - it spins freely one way, and engages the rest of the hub body the other way, as opposed to a fixed gear hub which would engage the rest of the hub all the time.

A driver is the piece that goes on a cassette hub.. I don't know much about them.

A flip-flop hub on a BMX bike is most likely a hub that you can put the cog on either side of the hub, so you can have the chainring on the right or the left. On a fixed gear bike, one side would be fixed and the other a freewheel.

Flip-flop generally means that one side is for a 16t (or 15t AC Racing) freewheel, and the other is for 14-15t (or Odyssey 13t).
