Advocacy & Safety - critical mass stories

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am doing a research paper for my college english class on critical mass, and I was hoping to get some stories, good or bad, from people who have participated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check through the archives. You may find stories, opinions and insights into the participants.

Or go into Google and search for the keywords: "counterproductive", "illegal bicycling maneuvers", and "anarchy on two wheels".
May the flames begin !!!

hey Andy, i like your perspective (although i rarely agreee with you) because you make things interesting...
but come on... i know you can say something more constructive and a little less Rush Limbaugh...
P.S. yeah, search the forums. i have posted at least one CM story about the police ramming a girl on a bike with a patrol car "for the safety of the community" as she was riding in the middle lane of a residential street going the correct direction with virtually no traffic (she failed to move to the right lane as instructed by the officers, which was an error) but "near-deadly" force by ramming with a patrol car was NOT warranted and VERY dangerous.

In 30 or 40 years, many of the rest of you will see CM riders as I do--as bigger heroes of and for cycling than Eddy Merckx, Beryl Burton, and Lance Armstrong combined. Every movement for social change needs a cutting edge, if only to make the rest of us seem more reasonable. Watch Portland area news this week--see if their genius police chief and mayor again overenforce around the September CM ride. Hmm, wonder if the city could be sued by the victim of a crime committed during that event who couldn't get a cop when they called?
