anyone here use fixed gear riding for rehab or have in the past...??

I stopped running track because of a groin injury and haven't been in comptetitive shape for a while now due to inactivity. I love bike riding, and it has always been the preferred method of leg warm-up (espec. for injuries) in athletics. I'm building up a fix, in part because I've wanted one for at least 5 years now, but also because I think a fix (specifically) will be a great way to get serious about rehabilitating my leg strength (in conjunction with localized exercises and training). I always felt that riding fixed I got a more overall workout on my whole legs.

anyone have similar experiences or anything?

I thought this was going to be about something entirely different...

I wouldn't try rehabbing a knee injury on one.

I read a great article, that i wish i could find again, about rebuilding knee muscles by riding fixed on a really low gearing, and of course, using brakes, specifically a back brake. The higher RPM, lower strain is supposedly good to build up strength again.

I've known several people who have ridden fixed trainers pedaling backwards for rehab following knee surgery.

i use the track bike for rehab for my knees.

don't use to big of a gear or too little.

If you get a 47,46,45x16 ,17,18 that will do it.

I kind of have a similar thing. I started riding fixed as crosstraining for running, since I stopped running competitively after college. Now I commute on it, and run errands occassionally, and it's managed to keep me in fairly decent running shape for when I do go back to race. After riding 5-6 days a week for 2 months, with about 3 days of running, I could still drop an 18-minute 5k on a rainy day.
