Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. just to let you know, your not gonna get a great bike for under 200 if thats still all you are willing to spend though, look at a free agent maverick possibly... you just need to upgrade the crnks... if you do, the industry ocker cranks are only 50 so i think (but im not sure) that it would be about 220 for maverick with rocker cranks and if you want someone to put them on, another 10-30 bucks... if you know you are going to love bmx forever, just get a custom early... if you get a crappy complete and start doin bigger stuff, it will basically fall apart and you will spend more money repairing it than if you just got a nice bike in the first place... thats what happened to me...good luck

Scroll up to where it says "Search The Forums". You might want to scroll through the existing threads in the BMX forums as well. Just don't post in a bunch of old threads unless you have something really relevant to add.
Alright i dont really know how much i can spend on it but i think i really like bmx but im not sure but this bike will be for my birthday.but do u think the mirra 360 will be small for me cuz its a 16"
Don't get a 16". Unless you're 9.
K even if i do get a bmx bike for around $300-$400 how long will it last me
Depends on how well you maintain it, and how much you abuse it.
ok well for my first bike i am thinking of a Stolen BMX Brat Bike 2006 for 209.99 or a Hoffman Condor EL1 2005 for 209.99
Both of the bikes are from www.danscomp.com
Have you ever bought from this site do they ship good and that kind of stuff.
Are they good?
Ok, you need to understand something here. We can't decide how much abuse you're going to give your bike, or what kind of riding you're going to do. For most of us, the minimum requirements are a full cro-mo frame, and decent 3 piece cranks. If you get a quality frame, it will generally come with quality components. Only you can decide if a lesser bike is good enough for you. I bought the strongest bike my shop sells, so that I don't worry about breaking stuff. Yeah, it will need a few upgrades over time, but you need a solid foundation to build on. Understand?
ok sorry about my newbie questions but i know we were all at this level that i am at right now.so do the bikes that i showed u have a cro-mo frame and 3 piece cranks. Also i dont wanna get a bike that is too expansive cuz im not really sure if i will be seriously into BMX because i skateboard too but im not sure. So i am starting with something smaller.
But other than that you are really helping me and i appreciate that.

Look under the description of the bike you want on Dans, and it will tell you all the details you need to know.

If you're looking at it as a beginner bike, they're ok. Because only some of the frame tubes are cro-mo, it's not really worth upgrading the bike later. If you want to give BMX a try, and understand that you may need to spend twice as much on a bike in the future, go for it. Also, they won't hold up to much jumping if you're on the heavy side. Think of them as the equivalent of a $25 Kmart skateboard. Yes, it's got a deck and wheels, but you'll outgrow it quickly. Got it?

Get the hoffman. It will do fine for you as a beginner bike. Dans Comp is very trustworthy. Quit worrying about the bike, get it and go ride hard.

You don't even know the meaning of the word "heavy", kid. Just five years ago, "heavy" meant over 45 pounds. Now a "heavy" bike is around 33. Kids these days are *******.

i wasnt around then but for now, diamondbacks are heavy for todays standards
CMcMahon
11-06-05, 02:22 PM
That doesn't change the fact that "today's standards" were considering "too light and weak for freestyle" half a decade ago. If 35 pounds is too much for you, go lift some weights and start shopping at GNC. Christ.

My bike weighed over 40 pounds when I was that old. What's your point?
Here's a shot of my old S&M Warpig frame, by the way; it weighed 8.25lbs. I rode that frame from my 15th birthday until mid '02, and I never managed to so much as dent it. Stronger than hell.

does that mean that its easier for you to do tricks and stuff now because of all the light bikes?
not always. it depends on what your doing.

Not at all, really. Most every current trick was done - or at least attempted - years ago.

That is more than our tandem frame with 2 sets of bars and two 8" disc brake rotors weighed. Now that I think about it, that may have included the box too.

and i thought the 2005 condor frame was heavy at 6.9 lbs!!!

Well, let's just say that I've never once in my life heard of anyone breaking a Warpig. Hell,if I ever get around to it, I'll post Troy McMurray's (it was his signature frame) part from S&M "4". It's still one of my all-time favorite parts. I'll probably post Ian Morris', too, just for good measure.

Now I like this reply, aside from the grammitacal errors. But it's far better than, "diamond backs suck DON"T BUY ONE". At least he gives a reason why HE thinks they suck. Keep up the good work and don't be afraid to caps and punctuation.
Darin, we know you meant "Grammatical" errors.
Beerman, there was a chick here in Sydney, Ms. Warpiglet. Seems like a lot of weight for a girl to be tossing around. She switched to another bike, but I'm not sure which one. I think the only thing I ever broke on my BMX bikes in the late 70s, early 80s was alloy bars and brake levers. I bent a few wheels too, but that was about it. If I could be 1/2 as good today as I was back then, I'd be happy.

Dooh, I'm an idiot. :)
Darin, we know you meant "D'oh!" :)

How much did you spend on that frame.

$315, plus shipping, if I remember correctly. Worth every cent, too. If that frame had a longer toptube (it's only 19.75"), I'd probably still be riding it today.

It looks like it was worth every penny. Im trying to get a hold of a 05 DK 6 pack frame, which I think is a pretty good strong frame. but I don't think it is as strong as yours.
Beerman, I found your ebay auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/DISC-Brake-KiT-for-you-bMX-bike-You-have-to-sEE-this_W0QQitemZ7193666018QQcategoryZ48841QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). I didn't think you'd ever part with it.

My brake setup cost me a less than 1/4 of what that's going for, and they work just fine and dandy.
I was going to get an hombre on ebay. A good brake for 1/2 what the Evolver would cost. But I was so busy pissing off here, I missed out at the last minute. I'm so angry, I may go back to work for a bit.

what are the best brakes available then?
CMcMahon
11-07-05, 10:37 AM
Dia-Compe 990s are by far the best (available - the old Simano u-brakes are even better). But for low profie brakes, the Fly's are killer; very low maintenence and no flex.

why in the hell do fly brakes cost loads then?
CMcMahon
11-07-05, 02:39 PM
Because they're machined, rather than forged. 990s are much more simple in their design than the Fly's are.

aren't you one of those super light bike guys?

So you'd take the Dia-Compe 990s over the Evolver? If you were taking a "Money's no object" approach, and just wanted brakes that worked the best, which ones would you get? Pricewise, they're all cheap to me, but I want ones that will work well. I know if braking is really important, I should get a chrome rim, but I hate chrome.
