Yeah took a bad fall in a race last sunday. Still managed to get 24th on a friends pit bike.
I was wondering should I go with an ultegra rear derailer or maybe XTR? or something from sram?

oh yeah I ride a treck xo1.

I don't think it matters. Personally I buy cheap for cross since stuff breaks all the time. I have an X01 too and right now have an LX that I pulled off an old MTB. It is working on a campy 8 speed cassette with a barcon in friction mode so the possibilites are endless.

I don't know about going cheap. I've used the same 9 speed Dura Ace rear derailleur for the past three seasons with no problems, and I've had a few gnarly wipe outs. I used 105 my first season of 'cross. There is a noticeable difference in performance and reliability.

probably doesnt matter too much, but i have had good luck with ultegra and dura ace rder's. just get whatever works cuz you will probably break it again. but i'd stick with 9 speed...

I used to run a 105 rear but my Fuji came with a Dura Ace and man what a difference the shifting is when I really need it. Fast and crisp. I run a 105 front. I don't recommend running Dura Ace for muddy conditions but out here in Nor Cal we haven't seen any rain yet so it's all good.
