WOL or WOTL = Wide Outside Lane or Wide Outside Thru Lane - generally a lane that is wide enough to safely share side by side with a motorvehicle
NOL = Narrow Outside Lane - a lane that is too narrow to share side by side with a motor vehicle.

A key word in both definitions is "safely".
Just because you can squeeze a bike and car side-by-side into a lane, does not mean it's safe to do so. I've heard that a lane should be at least 14 feet wide before it can be safely shared and considered a WOL. Although a cyclist is only about 2 feet wide, you want about 1 meter (3 feet) on either side to be safe...

Agreed. I left out specific widths as part of definition as these can vary with road typical road conditions, usage pattens and posted speed limits. The link I provided recommends 15ft for a WOL

Of course, others may use a different f-word.

14 foot lane is the design width for bike/car sharing in Maryland, not that the design is used much...

I referred to a kid at work as FNG. Unfortunately, it turned out that he knew what it meant. My big mouth gets me in trouble again! :o
