I've had my New World Tourist for 3 weeks and love it more every day. I have even sold my Lemond Zurich and my Trek 520 since I prefer the BF to either one. I was amazed by the comfort of the bike. For years I always gravitated back to my 520 because of its comfort. However, the NWT is even better (probably because of the slight flex in the lightweight swan-necked stem).

However, I am starting to panick because what if I only need one bike. How will I spend my money? What will I lust after? In a moment of desperation (and anticipating long touring miles) I broke down and ordered a "Thudbuster" seat post for my NWT. I always thought that suspension seatposts were a gimmick, robbing the bike of energy and doing little to improve ride. I guess I was wrong. With the thudbuster on, the Bike Friday is like driving a cadillac. I know I'll appreciate it when I do the Lands End to John O'Groats run in the UK next year.

I think, for touring, it is worth ordering your Bike Friday with the Thudbuster, which would work out cheaper than buying one later and throwing away the 28.6mm seatpost that comes with the bike.

It sounds like to me that you are having a form of "post major bike purchase insecurity" because you already dropped at least 1k on the bike and you might have never dropped this amount of money on any bike before. Relax. Look at any additions that add to your bike as a real investment in your cycling future. The returns will go far beyond any monetary attachment anyone would place on your bike. Your comfort and peace of mind is number one. Remember that always!

I had a ThudBuster put on my NWT when I ordered the bike. Works well. BF doesn't feature a photo of a NWT with one, but it is stock on the Gnu/LLama models. Seems like a pretty common customization.

I've put suspension seat posts on my road bikes, folder and touring bike (Jamis Aurora). They really work and it really gives another level of comfort on all my bikes. Without the suspension seat post, I can only ride my 16' inch folder about 10 miles! In fact, the only other product just as good as a suspension seat post would be a Brooks Champion Flyer with springs.
