The big slab on the bottom that looks like it was deep fried is what made me take a break to fix myself a snack.

You can do a lot to Spam, but you can't change the taste of that original beast parts treat!

One thing about that Spam, (Sumo food), you can't hurt it, any more than it is already. ;)

I've always been curious about Underwood Deviled Ham. Anyone eaten it?

As a kid we had some tins of it in the pantry. I remember seeing it there on the top shelf for years and years. Probably still good.

Oscar (uh-oh, two Oscars):

Why, "YES", I have had Underwood Deviled Ham. I had it at my rich friend's house when I was a kid.

I had seen the TV commercials, but had never actually seen any food in such a small can except for cat food (which I had not eaten either).

I found that Underwood Deviled Ham was similar in appearance and smell as cat food which came in a similar size tin.

It did not suit my taste (pooh pooh) and I understood why it is sold in small quantities. En mass, the smell and appearance would be overwhelming.

It is inevitable that any cyclist's mind will gravitate to cycling, or food. So since this has become a "food thread", I would like to say that I enjoy those little smoked oysters.

Mike, is Spam cheaper than cat food? For the cat, I mean. I don't think we should let anyone get the idea we cyclists enjoy cat food (even if any of us do). I remember Mel Gibson in Mad Max VII (whatever), when he was eating that dog food, right outta the can.

See, it'll put hairs on your chest (maybe your legs, too)!

I guess this would not be a good time to talk about those giant insects...

"Hey, honey! Please pass me those lobster shell crackers, I've got a tough bug here!"

Yes, Mike, there's two of us here now, so be careful what you say to me, the other Oscar Might think you're talking to him, so from now on you can call me "Racso", I have nothing against the name Oscar, But for the last fifty three years people has been calling me Oscar., so I think its time to change, right Mike?

Before Joe kills this thread (and puts it out of its misery),
I want to say to Hunter, could you verify that my absolute hero, John Stamstad (o.k., you weenies turn the other way), the guy who keeps pure vegetable oil in a water bottle and eats Little Debbies for bonk insurance and rides like a pure demon out of (that place), actually was advised by his nutrition specialist to eat Spam at night (when he had time to digest it)?

Nobody else laugh, John will smoke your **s. Am I wrong, Hunter?

Yes it is true. John tends to eat some of the most sugar loaded, and the most fatty foods you can get. I have also read that while he is riding he has eaten candy bars. I persoanlly have seen him come in devour Gu, Ice Cream, a hamburger, and a bananna, drink a Coke, puke, get back on and take off. This was done at the then titled 24 hours of Canaan when he entered under 4 variations of his name. The reason for this at 5 ft. 6" and weighing 140 pds? He has no body fat at all. He actually needs this stuff in order to continue. He is also asthmatic. Pete is correct John will smoke you!

Pete, I would like to keep "Racso", coz, now I have the reason to change it, I having been using it for 53 years, Its Kinda boring, so now is the time to change it, and thanx, Pete for being sympathetic to me! And to put it straight I don't have any thing against the other Oscar, I just really wanted to change it for a long long time and be called "Racso"

SPAM is so gross my mom never lets me get it., The one time she did let me get it...darn..she wasted 2-3 bucks. I opened the can and got hit by the smell and the gross sight of the fat jelly, I threw that dang can in the trash and vomitted in the same motion. And that isn't nearly as bad as vienna sausage..ew

At a rough guess, I would say the spam thing was meant to hide the advertising material they had posted (although I could possibly be wrong). So it's probably a good thing anyway.

Which brings up a question, Joe. What's the longest running thread in the history of bikeforums?

And what happens to posts after they sink to the bottom of the list from disuse?

I think the longest thread had ~90 replies, but it wasnt a "real" thread, it was a word game thread. As for old posts, there still avalible on the forums. I dont like to prune or delete old threads, as i think of this website / forum as a big living bicycle FAQ.

OK, you guys (or as we say here in New Orleans and the rest of the South, ya'll), I have to come to the defense of a couple of great American food traditions.

First of all, someone unfairly maligned Deviled Ham. Now, if you read the ingredients, Deviled Ham is made from ham, and I don't think it smells like cat food at all. There is a similarly packaged product called potted meat that is made from leftover parts and organs that does smell like cat food. When I was young (1950's) we used to often picnic on Deviled Ham sandwiches when travelling. That was before the advent of nutritious alternatives like McDonalds.

Now,as to Spam, I have very fond memories of mornings at a particular aunt's house at which breakfast would often consist of piles of fried eggs and fried sliced Spam. My mother would sometimes dip slices of Spam in egg then cracker crumbs and fry until golden brown. Now that's eatin'!

A good friend of mine, who has a gift for creative turn of phrase, refers to such meals as "heart-stoppin' good". On that, I think we can all agree.

Ummm...pass on the cow's stomach for now, but don't know what it is about Spam (the unusually edible kind), i have this weird relationship with it. I must admit I love it (with rice; spam thinly sliced).

I too am amazed.

I've seen interesting topics with only two or three replies.

Spam, however, seems to warrant much discourse.

We lived in Australia for a couple of years when I was a kid, and I used to love steak and kidney pies - until it occurred to me that it wasn't just a figure of speech - there really were kidneys in it. We don't eat that kind of stuff in Texas (well, maybe calf fries).

Never could get use to Veg-e-mite (how do you spell it - more importantly, how do you eat it?)

Hey! I've got a great idea. Let's not do anymore "I-can't-believe-this-thread-is-still-alive" posts! But that might
be like saying "Don't think of a pink elephant." That's the first thing you do!

We could start a new thread called, "What was that???" and maybe people will start posting there.

Maybe Joe will kill it! Can he do that?

Look, we might get a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records...

Geraldine would be amazed, too!

Surely nobody can kill this thread. It could go into the Guiness Book of Records as the most innane piece of drivel ever, possibly the longest streak of stupidity in the history of mankind! No, wait, that was that stupid chain letter I got in my e-mail the other day telling me I was going to be eaten alive by mad goats if I didn't "send this on to 5 people in the next 3.2 seconds", and that I would die instantly if I accidentally forwarded it to 4 or 6 people.

I wonder if I could save myself and tempt the goats with some spam?

What better place for meaningless posts intended solely for self-promotion than a spam post?
