Where to buy a HAKKAPELIITTA?

I'm planning on buying a HAKKAPELIITTA W106 for the front tire on my mountain bike that I commute with. But I can't find them. The common online shops I visit (Jenson, PricePoint, Nashbar) don't have them, and I used google but the few hits I get are out of stock. Where are people actually buying these tires from? Should I ask my LBS if they can order them?

I just picked up a pair from my LBS (in the Washington DC area) over the weekend. They had just stocked up for the winter. Otherwise they would have ordered them for me. Of course I pick up studded tires on a day when its 75 degrees and at least the next week is projected to be at or above 70 deg. Oh well at least I'm ready for the snows!!

Peter White is definitely a good choice for buying remotely. If the poster is in Chicago, Rapid Transit usually has them (North Avenue, near Damen and Milwaukee).

A place over in Silver Spring called Silver Cycles (9330 Georgia Ave). Its not too far from the end of the Capital Crescent Trail or the Silver Spring Metro. Nice folks if you're in the neighborhood.

I'm new on this particular forum and I recommend trying your LBS. Mine was able to order these very tires for $50 each. I know it's a few bucks more than AEBike but I don't mind spending a couple extra bucks locally.

AEBike IS a LBS in Kalamazoo. Spoke to them yesterday about some shoes. Nice folks. It's a heck of a lot simpler to order on-line/phone than trudge to my LBS twice (not to mention saving $30 in sales taxes).

If I need advice, want to buy a bike, or such, then yeah it's LBS.

i _more_ than agree with the LBS strategy... and i would get to pay in CAN$ (with a lot more taxes but no shipping...) but these tires are really hard to find around where i live... but ordering for ordering, this is the cheapest i've found on the web... and the service was very good.

on the good news side for people in "la belle province" looking for such tires, i heard about the arrival of a "new nokian tire distributor" (for their car tires, but that's a good start!). (most LBS sell innova steel stud tires).

Well as long as I was ordering...

Besides World Cycling (a catolog retailer of OCP finery) is my nearest LBS (pass by it every day) and I have no use for them.

Thanks for the information! I ordered from AE Bike on Thursday (11/17) and the price was still the same. They shipped on Friday and should be here Monday.

Like other posters have mentioned, I wanted to use my LBS as well, but it would have been a special order and cost $70/tire. I'm not sure exactly where my line is in terms of extra cash I'm willing to spend to support the LBS, but this crossed it-- especially consdering that AE Bike is indeed an LBS just a bit north of me.

The price variance on these tires is amazing:

AE Bike= $41.99/tire
Peter White Cycles = $52.00/tire
Harris Cyclery = $61.95/tire
LBS = $70/tire

I'm a very big fan of Harris Cyclery and my LBS, but have enough of an aversion to Peter White Cycles that I won't spend money there. Unfortunately, as much as I like Harris and my LBS the prices were high enough that I figured i couldn't afford the tires. It was therefore a nice surprise to find a place close to home that is even cheaper!

no problem!

And, i just started to use these tires and they are great! especially when inflated at the right pressure ((!) ok, this is always important, i know :) )

but keeping the right pressure is always harder in winter because of T changes. A colleage of mine inflated his tires at cold T (and sure went to the upper limit of suggested pressure) and both tires blew up in the indoor (overheated) garage where we put our bikes!!!! i guess this could be the subject of another thread... anybody using inert gas? :)
