Increased security level

From an e-mail joke I just received:


The British are feeling the pinch in relation to recent bombings and have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved'. Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies all but ran out.

Terrorists have been re-categorised from "Tiresome" to a "Bloody Nuisance". The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was during the great fire of London in 1666.

I always thought there was something odd about their upper lips.

I'm amused.

It's really a comment about how much the British have been through - WW2 bombings, IRA bombings, al qaeda, etc.

If they had given up in WW2, it would be a far different world, one we would not enjoy.

I am German and admire that part of the British. Speak softly and carry a big stick.
Nothing to be gained with showing your hand or emotions.
