Has anyone put bar ends on a Trek Hybrid? Or changed to a different style completly. I would love to see some pics.

Profile Designs Boxer bar ends work nicely on my 7700FX.

The extra length of the Boxers, over the Briefs, gives me just about the same hand position just higher up, for out of the saddle pedaling, as the handlebars give when in the saddle.

The extra hand positions are a plus.

A lot of longer distance tourists put aerobars on their flar-bar bikes. Bar ends spread your arms wide so you get poor aerodynamics and a parchute effect. Aerobars are not recomended for use in heavy traffic.

what is the purpose of you wanting the bar ends?

most hybrid bars that I have seen are just mtn bike bars and there are bar ends on mtn bike bars all the time so there shouldn't be any problem with it. If you are just looking to get more hand positions then go for it.

Another vote for the aerobars. I have a pair on those, is like having instant two more cyclinders in a car. The position - comfortable that is- makes the rider cut the wind betterm, in addition to rectuit some LARGE muscles (yer butt muscles) that usually see no action on the regular riding position.

Bar ends are for climbing and for more hand positions. Aerobars are a completely different issue.

I have a 2000 Trek 7200 hybrid. I put Profile Design bar-ends on it to give me more hand positions and reduce fatigue and ulnar neuropathy. I really like them. I found the bar-ends in a clearance bin for $1.00 at Galyans.

I love having bar ends on my Gary Fisher Hybrid. I did trim the bars narrower before I added them.

That looks great!!! Did you tape over the original handlebar grips? Or remove the grips before you added the bar ends?

Thanks. I removed the grips and then taped. The corner is a little sharp to get "just right" ... but I do love the feel of cushy bar tape.

My abilities have improved since I bought the 7500fx in 2003, but my extra cash has not. I wanted a road bike, but at 52 prefer a more upright style, like the Pilot or Synapse but the outlay was not in my budget.

Furthermore, with all the hills in Middle Tennessee, that granny gear on the fx comes in handy at the end of a long ride.

Solution, add a new stem, drop bars, and new shifters to the hill climbing gears on the hybrid.

(Hope the picture comes across.)

Well, I can relate to all of this! I doubt I'll ever be going to drop bars (I have "back issues") but -- it's good to know that if I get a 7.6 (which I'm drooling over right now) and I ever change my mind, I could switch out the bars.

Bike looks cool! Ride on!

Thanks everyone for the replies. Since the initial post I have added bar ends and a carbon seatpost. A great commuting bike!
