How far have each of you rode this year ? After being out 5 weeks with a broken collar bone..( DAMN GOLF BALL) and another week with minor surgery following "frozen shoulder" as a complication from the colar bone ( DOUBLE DAMN GOLF BALL) I am at....(Drum Roll please)...3610.4 miles so far this year. assuming typical California weather and a week off work at Christmas I should have no trouble reaching 4500. I am curious mto see how I stack up withthe rest of the over 50 crowd since I have only been riding about 18 months total. Would 4500 be consideredan addict? OR just an every day enthusiast?

I really don't have a clue. On one of my bikes, I have a computer which I usually don't turn on. On my other bike, I just installed a Cateye yesterday. My guess is that I'm way behind you. I only started cycling again in May and figure I have anywhere from 1500-2000 miles, but am clueless as to an exact figure.

I will track my mileage accurately starting in January of this year. My goal will be 3000 miles for 2006.

I am at 3850 for the year, weather can be quite variable when it finally gets into the winter weather pattern with rain 1-2x week but 4200 is doable.

I don't use a computer, so I don't know mileage. I started a log 14 weeks ago. I have spent an average of 99.5 minutes per day riding. I'm going for 100 now!

I think it's interesting that some of the most hardcore riders are on this forum.

Just over 4200 miles for the year as of yesterday. If the weather holds out, we should be able to eek out 4500 by Dec. 1st.

That's excellent. I know how much time and energy went into 4200, so you have my respect, especially in leiu of the shoulder injury! Don't know if it would be merely an every day enthusiast. Seems a bit more fanatical somedays :)

Take care,

I will probably have to ride a couple of times in the snow, but I should make 6000 miles by December 31. I didn't mean to. It just started to add up. I can't ride much mid-November to Mid march, so 6000 is pretty good, I think.

All this milage !!! Where do you find the time !!!. I am currently riding twice a week and as my computer has packed up on the Tandem- I have no true figure--- but 60 miles a week ( conservatively) plus 1150 on the organised rides and I should say that it is around 4,000 this year. If I allow for the 3 road rides and for approx 10 miles per ride on road before I get to the Decent riding I should say is around 1,000 on road and 3,000 of the Fun offroad. Then there has been the Gym work with the spinning classes but that is not riding- just pure hard slog- but around 50 hours of that this year.

about 2.5 K miles since June.
"winter" here is Nov - Jan. although our winter is quite mild we are spoiled and do not go out if it's wet. when spring starts in feb the mileage will go back up, so i estimate another 1.8 K totalling about 4.3 K. As opposed to stapfam who does most of his miles off road, all mine are on road, making it a lot easier to stack up the miles.

For the first time in many years, I didn't keep track this year. SInce I got the heart Atrial Fibrillation, I didn't want to get depressed by my reduced mileage.

Interestingly, I brought my mileage up to about 120-150 miles per week even with the Atrial Fibrillation, and kept that up from about April through August. I took a hit after the heart repair 08/26/2005 for a few weeks, but am now back up to about 120-150 miles per week.

So, I don't know my mileage, but would estimate at about 4,500 miles.

I just picked up riding again this year in March. To date I have 1,300+ miles. I should wind up with somehting between 1500-1600. Next year targeting 2,500.

You do put in a lot of miles. But one thing I've learned from your posts is that for you it's not just about the miles. It's also about having fun and getting back on the bike when life knocks you off.

I have two kids and everything that goes along with fatherhood, I'm a drilling reservist and live in a short cycling season state.
So, I'm pretty pleased with that.

It's almost embarassing but only a little over 250 miles since beginning of August. I haven't really been on a bike for about 15 years until August. I just don't have the time to go out more than 2 hours at a time. I have been picking it up lately and for the past month I did about 150. I expect to be riding through the winter here on Long Island, NY. My goal for 2006, although modest, is at least 1500 miles.

I log my commute days: 120 as of today, and my round trip is 17 km/10.5 miles, so that accounts for 2040 km/1260 miles. Hope to get another 20 days in before the streets ice up. I would have to guess at my recreational mileage...conservatively maybe 1500 km/1200 miles. So the final yearly total may add up to about 3860 km/2660 miles, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually a bit more.

2,500 km. since starting to ride in May - at 56 my first year cycling. Most of the distance was with my local touring club 2 or 3 times a week. Only a half dozen commutes to work - it's 65 km. return trip including a ferry ride across a wide canal - so the trip takes up to 90 minutes each way.

What's worse in the commute is the first 15 minutes on a rural artierial road at 6:00 a.m. in the pitch dark. I seem to ride faster than my bright LED headlight can light up the road, no matter how I adjust it, so I have to slow down a little. And I have to head to the gravel shoulder when a vehicle approaches at 80 km/h from the rear, I can't count on a driver seeing my taillight no matter how bright it is. The 15 minute stint on this country arterial is unavoidable - a road cyclers don't like to use in broad daylight. But I'm "land locked" - if I want to ride into work it's an obstacle I have to overcome unfortunetly.

Of course the total distance is just a number, just arithmetic, and doesn't really matter. It's all the other stuff that went behind the number that's important.

I'm at about 2200 miles this season so far. My goal had been 2K and 2 centuries. I achieved my goals for this, my first full season, but I'm feeling now like I should have aimed much higher (especially as they're already starting to mention the "S word" in the forecast). Of course, there's always "Indian Summer"

Wow!! I guess I'm a slacker -- 700 miles on my hybrid and very nearly 1000 on the road bike I bought in June. This was my first year of riding more than just my 3 mile commute to work, so I'm sure I'll have more miles next year, but I can't see a 4000+ mile year.

That's more than pretty good!

That's how it was for us too... just started riding and the miles just sort of piled up. Our rides only averaged 17-20 miles at the beginning of the year, so I'm hoping next year we can up that to the 25-30 they're at now. Also, where 40 miles used to seem like a long ride, now it's almost routine.

Take care, and keep riding!

968 as of Aug 7th... on a bike comp installed in May. So roughly 300 miles a month. (typically do 60+ miles a week) So that should give me about 3000 for the year.

- good for you! i just started riding in April, but now am up to 15-20 a day (just did a 30-miler today from Dunedin to Tarpon Springs with a buddy; trail is along Gulf of Mexico)...

- don't think i could do 7 days a week though - i like to take at least one day off for recovery!

:-)

- i have computers on the bikes - now well over the 1,000-mile mark and will nearly double that by end of year... looking forward, 2006 will be a banner year!

Well, I am not riding near as much since the time went back, it's getting dark too soon and when I get home, its dark. I am going to start riding with the club at the college in circles under the parking lot lights. I need some miles. :)

I don't know what I have for the year. I got a cyclometer for my road bike on August 19 and it reads 1231 miles now. My weekly commuting is about 30 miles per week on a different bike. A conservative WAG would put my mileage YTD to be around 4000 miles.

My first season back in 20 years and I have a humble 6,000 kms. or so to report. Plus a few hundreds of km's on the ancient Meile indoors on the trainer and outside early in the season opener.

I was very fortunate to be at home and on "lite" duty from work this year and was able to get out mid-day throughout the week, plus the week-ends. Next year, maybe more of the same if I'm really lucky. Cross my fingers!

I am very regimented and do AT LEAST 25 miles/day. This is on a trail if possible or a trainer. In addition there are many centuries and 50 miles/day on all weekends.

Because of the Osteoporosis scare, I am now sharing time with hiking and weight lifting. So that will cut my annual average down. :(

I'm at 4908 miles with 7 weeks of hopefully good riding to go. My goal was 5000 miles this year and If can do 100+ miles a week I should be able to blow that away.

Not bad for me particularly considering I'm employed full time plus I play a good bit of Golf. The home projects have REALLY suffered lately........

If was not working I could easily see myself doing 200 miles per week........

My riding year started on March 12, which was my 1st day back on the bike after 3+ mos of recovery from a mishap where a Hummer rode me off the road.
Mileage as it stands today - 3960 mi. on my Astral which moves across my 2 most used road bikes (not counting the gaspipe commuter), another 374 mi. on the cateye micro that stays on the Colnago master garage queen.
No computer on my Limongi, but a good, conservative guesstimate for miles on it, 400+.
There's prolly 250+ offroad miles on the MTB.
Gas pipe commuter does 8 miles RT a day, 5 days a week (minus a few days off), 30 weeks, plus local shopping and errands - 1200+ miles ?, amazing how they add up.
6184 so far
Expect to get maybe another 700 fun/training miles by the yr end (tough with the short daytime hrs), commute and local stuff - maybe another 350ish.

I take my year 1 Nov - 1 Nov ... so, just finished. 8542 km (looks better than miles .. around 5300 mi I think). That includes one or two sessions a week on the rollers or my trainer, but doesn't include my low-level commuting, which would add another 1000 km or so. I ride 2 or 3 times a week over the winter, then 3 or 4 times a week "in season" with at least one 4-5 hour ride a week. I restarted riding last year, so this is my first full "year".

I hesitate to post my low mileage in this group, but I've logged about 850 miles on the road bike and almost exactly the same on my indoor trainer. This is mostly riding 20 miles on Saturdays and Sundays and a few rides after work on weekdays in summer. I'm hoping to make 1000 by December if the weather stays good. When I retire and can ride on weekdays I'll try to catch up with some of you. The mileages posted by many of you are truly impressive. Doubt I will ever do 4000 or 5000 a year!
