Hi,

I scan in a big map, then using Photoshop I draw a route on top of the image... and then crop it to just include the info that I need for today's ride. I print it out on a color printer, then cut off the excess. This gives me a really nice small (5" x 4") map that only has all the data that I need. Every night I do a new map for the next day, as I love to explore... sometimes complex, impossible for me to remember, routes. This whole process works great.

Where it falls down is in the usage on the road. The only map holder I have seen is the one make by Cycoactive:

This one seems to be great for mountain bikes, but on a road bike tooling along at 25 mph it starts flopping all over the place.

Here is my question: What do folks do to read maps while they are rolling that works well with quick paced road biking?

Thanks!

Most tourists use the map holders that come with bar bags.
Pletscher used to make one , not on their web site any more.

Put it in a clear plastic bag, fold it over in half, and shove it in the back pocket of 'yer jersey! Doesn't flap around, stays, dries, no added wind resistance, and no excess weight! ;) If that doesn't work just stick it between your teeth. :D

The Minimap holder is EXACTLY what I have been looking for.
As there are no US distributors, I will try contacting the one they have in the UK. Thanks!!! Happy Riding!!!

I found that the minimap rattled a bit.

I now use a home made gizmo:

A plastic clip used by plumbers to hold pipes against a wall. Happens to be the same circumference as by bars. The hole for the screw into the wall now holds anut and bolt which go thru an ordinary office buldog clip.

I put the map into an A5 filifax plastic wallet (it has a neat plastic side zip) and the buldog clup grips the wallet.

An unexpected bonus is that I ccan rotate the whole thing out of the way when I don't need it.

Necessity is the mother of invention. Go down to the nearest hardware supply and nose around!

I do the same trick of reducing the map or course directions down to 4.5X 4.5. Then I place them in a clear plastic CD holder (not the case, but the sleeves). Then I have a velcro attached to the stem. It works great.
