Galen and Jodah are going to CHI this weekend, but is anyone else up for a saturday morning session this weekend or next?

I will be there. It will be my 4th beginers session(starting to get the hang of that whole FG thang!)

spandex not required, but common.

has anyone ridden their bikes, i have a conversion and my track frame is not ready yet.

ZappCatt
11-08-05, 12:51 PM
Conversions ARE allowed..I have not seen any on the track yet though. As long as you can ride the streets with it, I imagine you would not have trouble at Hellyer since it is nto very steep. It is only 22.5 degrees or something like that.

Mouton

So long as its fixed gear and you have NO BRAKES. yes. you can ride what ever.

edit: also needs to have Drops, with bar plugs.

I've always wanted to go and never got the chance before I left Berkeley. But since I am moving back up this month, I think I will hit it up finally.

Is it pretty relaxed on the beginner/open track Saturdays?

alphredrock
11-08-05, 11:50 PM
it's pretty relaxed, except for all the really annoying yuppies that wear blindingly bright spandex body suits and really annoying sunglasses. but whats new, right?

Mouton
11-08-05, 11:58 PM
Its not relaxed like a beach blanket and an iced tea. You get your workout for sure.

I will have to make sure I wear my Hi Vis Yellow Jersey this weekend.

stinkyonions
11-09-05, 12:59 AM
I meant relaxed in the sense where people aren't gonna give you crap if it's your first time on the track. I haven't been on the track yet but plan on hitting it up once I am back in the bay area. I just don't like the scorn I get from the roadie crowd sometimes even though I am sure the track crowd is different.

ZappCatt
11-09-05, 01:07 AM
Nah, it is totally relaxed.

You will be ahead of many of the roadies who have never been on a fixie before. Last weekend we had a couple of guys who were mountain bikers in typical mountain bike shorts.

Yo!..happy early b-day to you man...
you can pretty much finish whenever you want. the warm up labs is pretty much what I did last month..... you can stay and run races of any type as you wish just let the instructor dude know....

The regular trackers are cool too... we the team B.A.P.J. from SF..wearing dicky short and big hangover were hanging out with them and they cool.

ZappCatt
11-09-05, 03:11 PM
All the instructors are pretty cool. They volunteer to try to get people hooked on the track.

Each week there is a different instructor. I believe last time I was there with John, we did a 30 lap warmup(6 miles) then he gave us the instructions. We then did pacelines in groups of 4, then some handling drills, and 200 meter leadouts(full speed). After that, we had a couple of races(full speed).

The track opens at 8:30 and the session ends around 11:30, but you are welcome to leave at any time.

I will be there...

So who all made it out?

I was the tool who was the "last man in" on the crash. I think it was dubteka's bike that I crashed into.

How did you guys like it?

yah. that was me. that crash sucked!! I'm pissed about my rear wheel. not sure who, but someone rolled over it, dented the rim and pulled a spoke out of it's nipple. wounds can heal, but not sure if the rim can be repaired.

aside from that. it was tons of fun. i'm just glad i wasn't hurt enough to quit. keep on truckin' (err... ridin')
i'll be going back again soon.

Mouton, were you in the Descente jersey?

dubteka - so sorry about the wheel. At least you were okay and still hammering on the track nonetheless. I may have been the one responsible. All I know is that there were a mass of bodies and bikes sliding down the track, that I was rapidly approaching. Then there was suddenly a bike in front of me, with no way out. The mountain bike instincts kicked in and I instinctively did a small bunny-hop/wheelie (not an easy thing to do on a track bike while in the drops) and my rear wheel came down on a rim. Luckily for me (but not for you) I was able to carry my momentum over it.

I have an almost complete shop at my house, including truing stand and all the accessories, and would be happy to help you fix it. If the rim is really badly dented it may be a goner, but you don't need a braking surface anyways right? PM me if you want to take me up on it...

Mouton
11-12-05, 09:36 PM
Yeah that was me.

dubteka
11-12-05, 10:18 PM
yah, no worries. that was a mess. can't blame anyone for it. someone did roll over my frame as well though... there's tire marks on my top tube! i haven't inspected the whole bike closely yet, but i think aside from the wheel (and scraped up stem!) all is well.

just checked the rim out.. not to bad. still rideable, i think... will have to fixe a spoke, and re-true it and we'll see. thanks for the offer though plantdude!

took a couple of pics (should have got more, but forgot/was riding):

I'd be way down to join in on another group mission down to hell(yer).

Haven't been on a track before, and would love to check it out...You all ride from SF down the peninsula, or come across to the East Bay and then down?

I've got a car and room on the rack for 2, maybe three bikes, but I'm already in the East Bay.

I wouldn't be able to use my bike - bullhorns and no spare set of drops.

Rentals are like $5 right?

Either way, I'm all over it given the opportunity...

we should plan something soon...

Katie and Alex, you guys look like track pros!

Zapp, I will make you a deal:

I will come down any Saturday that you will pick me up from SF.

Cheers!

Except for this Saturday, I have someone special in town.

Oh, and the following Saturday, I'm racing in the NAHBS race.
