BMX - cheap old BMX

I'm not really a BMXer but I just like to ride all types of bikes. I picked this up at the local thrift store last year for $4.50, it's a Schwinn Mag Scrambler. I was hyped to find it as I was trying to find a bike like it to mess around on. I put a mongoose seat and a cheap pair of tires from eBay on it. A few months later the same thrift store had these mongoose pegs for sale so I put them on the back. I ride it around the neighborhood when I'm bored. Total cost put in this thing is about $25-30. I should probably get around to getting the rust off the chainwheel.

edit: I like how when trying to remember how much I spent on it I forgot the question. Does anyone know how old these generally are?

Awesome. Totally awesome. I wanted one of those SO BADLY when I was in elementary school.

I had one, in blue. I only just remembered right now. I bought it from a guy down the street for $11 (frame only) and one day the cops came to my house while I wasn't home, and took it away. They came back and read mE my rights, which upset my mum (I was 11 at the time) but didn't do anything to the guy that had actually stolen it.

Here's the kicker-

Almost 10 years later, I'm at the auto parts store with my sister, and my buddy Bob behind the counter turns to her and says "Your brother stole my bike when we were kids". So I was all embarassed, thinking he was talking about our older brother. It took me a bit to realize he was talking about me. The odd thing is, he never once mentioned it to me all those years, and I didn't know it was his bike. I knew him back then, but didn't hang out with him. So there you go, my repressed memory BMX story.

When I was racing, I had my race bike and a "thrasher", or street bike. One night, I left my thrasher on the front porch overnight. It was stolen.

A few days later I saw the bike at my practice track, and the guy riding it was a guy I knew from school.

"Why'd you steal my bike?", I asked.
"You left it on your porch.", he said.
"Whatever," I replied, "If you can live with yourself you can keep it. You must need it more than I do, you sorry dirtbag."

I never saw him at the track again, nor did I see him at school. I think he dropped out.

So basically what you're saying is that you saw the guy with your bike, and let him keep it. Wuss.

that's not how we do things in NY. if you take a bike, you spraypaint it or sell it. if you can recognize your parts on some other guy's bike, you **** him up and take his bike

I think that that's pretty much the way it works everywhere.

I like the bike, it's pretty hot, but I personally wouldnt run pegs on it.. just me.

He didn't call you ********. If he did, I might have gotten a bit cranky. He called you a spanner, which I found quite amusing. You'll get over it.

I recall "tuff wheels" from the 75-78. Back then the wheels alone where going for 40 bucks each. Funny there was a lot of talk then about if they would hold up.

i find that stolen bike practice track amusing. its like a standup comedy...i mean its funny how the guy said, cuz u left it on your porch - what an excuse. then he didnt get his bike back...
