General Cycling Discussion - My fist night ride.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Tonight was my first night riding experience and it was excellent!
Lone couples, for whom there is no world other than their loved one. Quiet suburban streets with only a rare car passing by. Parkways along the river and the waterfall, fresh humid breeze embracing you and filling your lungs with a touch of chill and purity. Dark paths in the woods, leafs shuffling in the wind, crickets chirping their solos and little critters fumbling and rustling out there in the shadows, all uniting in a mesmerizing cacophony of Nature. Your mind clear of any thought, a trance-like tranquility and a sense of divine beauty filling you soul. It is just You and the Night.

HAPPY B-DAY my Dear mate !!!:) :) :)
I was touched by this writing man...really....
It is amazing...hope u will buy a better bike soon...
Ah, a kindred spirit.
To be honest I think there is nothing like a night ride. whether it be through a city where the hustle and bustle has slowed a bit, or out along a river, in the woods etc. Night riding really makes me feel alive....cool air, that serene feeling, the glow of the lights you pass.....I used to ride at night through the city of Cologne when I was in Germany....nothing like it....absolutely invigorating.

Happy Birthday MeHT :bday: :fun: :bday:
Sounds like you have been smitten by the night ride bug .
You certainly have a very poetic turn of phrase.

There is nothing like a night ride, especially on a warm summer night! Often, you own the road. Smells are more pungent and you can feel the temperature gradient as you descend into valleys or climb hills. Your immediate world is what your light illuminates, but you can imagine what exits outside of that yellow oval through the sound and smells that assault your senses as you ride!:D

I don't do it often enough. Night rides are great ... love 'em by bicycle or by motorcycle. Just more peaceful & enjoyable.

Outstanding! Very creative typing as well. I have never done a night ride. Your post has me thinking about doing one though...
I'm curious about your lighting for your bike. What are you using? If I could have experience half of what you typed, I'd buy 2!!!
Thanks,
Ti-Carbo
A cheap 5-led red flasher on the back, a LED + Haloben bulb on the front. A total of ~$30 Canadian. Though the halogen bulb wasn't quite effective riding in utter darnkess. Gives an eerie and a little scary feeling, which is fun, though.

Nice description MeHT
Had my first full "night" ride into work this morning. It was very cloudy and I had to keep my lights on for the whole trip. The sun is not up until about 6:30 now. The first hour is really dark and the traffic is light. What a nice start to the day.

What, not smart enough to make it rhyme?;)
Night rides are definately magic.
I wish I could get out more often.
I did my first group ride yesterday. I was only planning on doing 1/2 the ride and meeting up with my hubby and kids at a grape festival. I ended up doing the entire 43 miles. It was really hilly, lots of long and steep climbs. I only drank Gatorade at the 1/2 way point and I bonked aboud 1/2 way home. I made it though and shocked the heck out of the other 19 in the group.
The ride was around Canandaigua lake in the Fingerlakes area of Upstate NY. If your at all familiar with the area you will know about the hills. It was abeautiful day and I managed to recover fine. I'm even ready to ride a little tonight!
P.s. It was my first time "clopping in" and I only wiped out once. I plain old forgot that I was attached to my pedals and fell over. It was good for a laugh!

Way to go Annie!
You had a night of many firsts. First night ride, first bonk, first clipless incident and it sounds like your coming back for more!
Ain't it great?
