I'll start: Moving servers sucks, a job that should have taken 4 hrs is in its 10th hour, and just over half way done.

Well I took you up on your server down message and went out for a bike ride. So it works for me :) Thanks for a great forum and I know all about the server thing.

i didn't know what to do with myself while BF was down. my co-workers found me hugging my knees in the corner of the bathroom rocking back and forth while sputtering "where did my friends go? why did they leave me?"

So, it's good to be back. Thanks Joe for putting in the effort. I hope it operates smoothly for you.

While I wasn't in the batroom, my co-workers did come by and wonder why I was blaring 80s streamcast from Sirius...I told them that I had nothing else to do. I mean, when BF isnt there to suck the bandwidth from my company, I gotta find something, right?

Joe - in the annoucement post you have over on Foo, you say the BikeForums/C.Connections sections are going to be locked till 12/10. Is that right!

-- on second read, looks like that's the life of the Annoucement post. (deep breath of relief)

btw - yes, any time you're moving servers, anything that can happen, will happen. Happy to see some things up and running and I can get my BF fix in a limited way today. Saturday I promise to take your advise and go ride!

Thanks for everything Joe. BF's has been a place to share and explore my new enjoyment of cycling!

C'mere Koffee, now that things are slow you and me need to spend a little quality time lying to each other and exploring the limits of what constitutes sexual harrassment and what constitutes pure, unadulterated paddy-cake! Ppppppleeeeezzze, come on, once you've had an old man with no scruples that talks like Roger Rabbit, you'll never go back!!! My handlebars or yours? :D   :fight: :roflmao: :roflmao:

Has anyone ever figured just how much Joe is responsible for a loss of productivity in the WORLD!

I mean. all these folks sitting at their desks, surreptitiously reading and posting to BFN, using macro keys to switch back to the screen they are supposed to be on when the boss happens by - these folks must have greatly reduced productivity.

Joe, you may be responsible for the loss of millions of dollars of productivity.

Reminds me of what happened when we went from 7 digit dialing to 10 digit dialing in the USofA. Let's see:

An increase in about 1.5 seconds in dialing time per call.

Lets assume 25 business calls per day per business person.

SO, loss of 37.5 seconds per day per person.

Over a year (assume 220 work days) = 8,250 seconds or 137.5 minutes or 2.29 hours.

Assume a work force in the USofA using telephones of 100 million x's 2.29 hours = 229 million hours @ $25 per hour average wage = $5.729 BILLION dollars in one year. Now we have had that about 10 years in Colorado, so we are now up to $57 BILLION dollars lost by changing from 7 to 10 digit dialing.

This doesn't count the increased wear and tear on the phones, the additional tie up of lines by phones taking longer to dial, etc.

Scary.

I am the bloss, dammit! My people are cursing Joe today I suspect, since I did get productive and they really hate when that happens!

That's like Steve Jobs beating on his developers to reduce the time it took Macs too finish booting. He figured out that if they shaved a couple seconds off of the time it took to boot, when you add up the number of times people boot in a day, year, lifetime, and so on, you could shave so much time that it added up to many years. Perhaps lifetimes. His argument was that the developers had to reduce the boot time to "save lives."

But, but, but, I thought Macs never needed rebooting?

Nope, major problems with the new server and host coming to light in the last 12 hours, I may delay the move another day or two... I'll have an update in a few hours.

Server moves can sometime be hazardous. This last week, and next week, I am in the midst of an infrastructure upgrade and adding 2 new servers to the existing neetwork, I am glad redbull is around. Fun times indeed. :)

So the forums are up on a new server now?

Or is this still the old server?

I doesn't seem any faster to me, and I'm on an internet connection at least as fast as a T1 line, maybe faster.

Also, mael, I thought redbull wasn't imported to Canada?
