I packed up my things after a good night sleep and got a cheap hot breakfast in town. I spent a little time at the bookstore afterwards talking to the owner and browsing his limited selection of travel books. He mentioned to me there is big news in Canada at the moment on the discussion of the decriminalization of marijuana. I moved on and went to a couple hardware stores looking for washers to keep my BOB trailer fender from rattling. I also needed a file to clean up the teeth on my small chain ring. I was hoping this would solve my chain sucking problem. Every time I am on the low ring, something is sticking and the derailleur arm is getting pulled up with the chain. I saw outside the library and took off my crank set to get at the small ring. I filed it down and put it back but it didn’t seem to solve the problem. I went to the Green Apple for fish and chips for lunch. I ordered the combo, halibut, cod, shrimp, and scallops and it was huge. The halibut was my favorite. I finished off my lunch with a mint chocolate chip shake and went to the library to do some journal entry. After lots of typing, I took a quick break and checked the post office one last time to see if my jersey was in. No luck. So I gave them a forwarding address in Vancouver and went back to the library to finish up. Finally, I got everything finished and wrote an email for friends on my experiences in the Queen Charlottes. I rode over to the aquatic center for a swim but found out it was closed. I guess my shower will have to wait. I went to Zorba’s for another East Indian meal and then to the Java House to check my email before heading towards the ferry terminal to find a place to camp. There was fog rolling in from the water but it didn’t look like it was going to rain so I pitched my tent off a trail without the rainfly. I was woken by a sound in the bushes. It was a cat. It walked right next to my tent and then down the trail. My alarm was set to wake me up at around 6am so I’d have time to pack and get to the ferry office by 6:30. (8 miles)
