Commuting - Fender recommendations?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can provide some recommendations for fenders...
Ideally, I'd like to be able to switch them between my two bicycles, depending on my mood (or route)...
I've got a fixed gear with 700c wheels,
and a dual suspension mountain bike with 26" slicks...

Any suggestions would be appreciated... (and where to purchase)

I love my SKS fenders. They are plastic with a core of aluminum. They are adjustable and they detach in a non-destructive way if you wipe out. Mine have survived several wipe outs, a ton of nasty weather, a foot-deep flood water (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=81827), and even a raccoon attack (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?p=1287628&highlight=raccoon#post1287628).

I also like my sks rear fender and sks mud guard. I have a folder so the rear fender comes off a lot. It's a quick-release seat post attachment. Couldn't be easier.

I've not ridden in rain with them yet but they handle irrigation run off with out letting a drop hit me. I encounter a lot of irrigation run-off on my commute so I suspect they will handle rain with aplumb.

I used one fender early on that would have worked because it only attached to the crown of the fork (is that the right term?). But it broke after a few months. I don't remember the brand. I would look for something like the SKS fenders--light plastic with a light metal core. You need it to be thick enough to be sturdy but light enough not to break under its own weight.

I have Giles Berthoud Stainless Steel fenders on 2 of my bikes, various plastic (on the others(Blumels, Esge/SKS, Zefal). Hard to beat Steel & the mounting hardware is really sturdy. G.B. fenders are available in many local bike shops so check them out.
