I woke to rooster calls on an overcast morning. I went inside and had some porridge and hot dandelion drink. Ryan was up with the kids and Lovena was sleeping in after having to get up at night with Tosh. They got ready to go to their farm meeting with Henry and Margaret and I started catching up on my writing. I hadn’t written much in the last 3 days. I got my things ready to go and broke down my tent after Lovena and Ryan came back. Alex and Alejandro stopped by and I said my goodbyes. It was hard to leave this farm. I think I could have easily been happy here for quite a while. But I had to move on and outrun the rain. There was a light sprinkle as I left and the hills of Cortes were punishing on the way to the ferry but I got through it Ok. I was lucky to make the ferry over with just about 20 minutes waiting time. We cruised to Quadra and I did some more writing during the 45-minute journey. Riding through Quadra was easy compared to the hills of Cortes and I was quickly at the other side of the island. I stopped into Quadra foods and got some trail mix and then went to a little Mexican café and ordered a burrito for the road. I watched many students and commuters disembark the ferry from Campbell River at the Quadra ferry dock. I boarded for the short ride and munched on the huge tasty burrito. At Campbell River, I headed straight for the laundromat/showers. I showered up, threw a load in, and went to the supermarket for a couple more food items. After laundry, I headed out of town south along the coast. I got out of Campbell River and decided to start looking for a good camp spot as it was getting dark and there didn’t look like many opportunities along the busy coast. I stopped near a gas station and saw an unrented warehouse. I found a nice quiet spot in the grass behind the warehouse and set up my tent. I made some phone calls and then crawled into my tent for some writing before bed. (21 miles)

Peace

Dave
