I broke my chain on like the 5th day of riding my new bike...took it back and the LBS fixed in and haven't had a problem yet.

no tools, but i do have a bottle of canadian hunter. cheaper than the bar and i dont even have to wear a helmet

Depending on how quickly you drink that bottle, the helmet might be a good idea.
