Foo - Anyone have connections with famous people?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Yup, Ryan Cabrera graduated from my high school and my neighbor's daughter is or was dating justin timberlake lol.
i met GW when he was governor of TX. thought he was an idiot then too.
met Jimmy Buffett years ago because the guy that owned the LBS i was working at was friends with a nearby restaurateur who was friends with Jimmy - he came in to jam one night while we were eating dinner.
supposedly, Richard Gere was looking to buy the house behind ours last year (somebody else did).
i've met Robert Jordan (writer) several times.
i've played pool with Stephen Low (director and producer of IMAX films). in a related note, i've played pool with one of the Russian submarine pilots who dove on the Titanic, and been inside one of the minisubs that dove on the Titanic.
i've met a lot of people, really.
and i live in the same state as Hincapie. never met him, though.

My oldest son has met lots of famous people - Heather Locklear, Cuba Gooding Jr., Larry Hagman, the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders. Most recently, he met the band Def Leppard. He is always sending me autographs.
:D
Oh, and I have met several well-known authors, including one of the founders of Foxfire (http://www.foxfire.org/whatis.html), Herbert Kohl (wrote MANY educational books on open classroom teaching back in the day), James Herndon (The Way It Spozed to Be), and John Howard Griffin (who wrote Black Like Me...he even took pictures of my oldest son when he was staying at my house before his death).
I know alot of famous people, or at least have met and sat down with.
Ill give one person right now. His name is matt sorum. He is the drummer of velvet revolver. A good friend of ours is going out with him. Oh I know. SCORE! :D (only drummers would truly be happy with that)
No way I want to meet the Cowboys:(, and especially the cheerleaders:)!

You'll appreciate this one, EJ. I played little league and high school football against Emmitt Smith for years. Also against Derrick Brooks, of Tampa Bay. Saw Ted Danson not long ago at Logan Airport, with his wife (she is an actress, but I can't recall her name right now). Have hung out with Roy Jones jr. Went to high school with the guy that won the PGA event last week (Slocum). Have met many of the Blue Angels over the years (an ever-changing group).

I had a dream once involving an old VW microbus, a broken-down red Ferrari Barchetta, Moon Unit Zappa, and Dweezil's guitar. Does that count?

No way lol! How was he back then?
i saw usher in a library once.
I was once in the lbs, and a lady walked it saying the Govinator was in Baskin Robins next door, so everyone from the shop went over and there he was in flip flops, a wife beater and board shorts getting ice cream...

Stephen J Gould was an ex-girlfriend's uncle. On our first date I jokingly pointed to a book on the shelf by this author that shared her last name, and she said "yeah, that's Uncle Steve". His wife and step-daughter stuffed me in one of his suits once so I'd be "presentable" at a Broadway show and at the fancy jacket-required restaurant. I remember they had a very cool library in their apartment. Interesting to see "how the other half lives". I also had a pro baseball player in my undergrad composition workgroup. Spent most of my life on the modest Plains, so that's all.

Well, picture how good he was with the 'Boys, and with UF before that. Then picture that same person playing against little league and high school kids. He romped over everybody.

sorry about that, you are correct. although i haven't seen the program, i believe my neighbour is now the new coroner guy.
I met John Kennedy the summer before he was assasinated. I met Bush the elder a couple of times when he came next door to the house we were renovating in Kennebunkport, Maine. And in the 70's, I drove a tractor trailer for rock and roll bands. We hauled many big acts. My best memory was the Boston Garden in 1978 when I invited my parents down to see David Bowie. In an out of the ordinary situation, Bowie had provided a catered meal for the crew. He sat down with me and my parents and broke bread with us. That was cool. My dad was impressed to the point of saying to Bowie, "You seem to be more than your public image". And I am related or was related by marriage to Sen. Dick Lugar, who I admire immensely but disgree with on almost everything.
I'm distantly related to Tim Berners-Lee.

A very distant ancestor was the Archbishop of Canterbury and he was canonized when he died. He's pretty famous.
My aunt has always told us, that we are very distant cousins to JFK. Something like 32nd.
His Irish family tree would go Kennedy>Fitzgearld>Monahan. Moms a Monahan from County Cork.

I shaked hands with Eric Heiden and he slap me on the back two weeks before he won 5 gold medals at 1980 winter olympics in Lake Palcid, NY. I was only 13 at the time.

One of my freinds in Cleveland is Bob Fellers(hall of fame Indians pitcher) step daughter. When I was a cook in the 80's I cooked for several actors Barbara Bain. Pat McCormoick and Amy Irving came back and thanked me for a wonderful dinner. Tennesse Williams mother was a member of our Church in Clayton Mo. And for all you hydro fans Bill Muncy was a member of my dads church on Mercer Island, WA back in the 60's. That was a major thrill for me he was my hero back then. And I got the baseball player Dave Parker's autograph when I was working at another restaurant in Seattle. We share the same name. Oh yeah and my neighbor in the 80's was the daughter of one of the Ventures. I got to haul their equipment once and party with them after the show. Thats when I met my first serious girl friend

David Ogden Stiers (of M*A*S*H fame) conducted my orchestra a few years ago. This summer my orchestra played with Billy Gilman, a young country singer who I'd never heard of, but the teenaged girls screaming in the audience sure had!

I had beers with Christina ricci a few years ago when she was in whistler. I periodically run into various hip hop dudes (my cousin would know and care who they are, some guy with a bandaid on his head was one) in town when they are djing clubs. One of the Swollen members worked with my gf at a restaurant in town. I ran into Edge 2 years ago at the Delta, that dude is freaking huge. The entire 2002/3 Vancouver canucks stayed in house for a couple of days.
There are a couple of other encounters but nothing worth mentioning.

I just remembered some ties my PARENTS had (not me).
When my dad was a teen or early 20s he played in a band and used to go to "Battle of the Bands" which was some big festival in Ohio he told me (he lived in Mich). He said he used to party with Bob Seger a when he was there. He was the biggest name there, but not a "star" yet.
Also, parents said that when they were first married (and I was a snot nosed carpet crawler) we lived in a 2-apartment house where we lived on bottom and a band (Grand Funk Railroad) lived in the apartment upstairs.

Well, if we are going to do parents. My Dad went to Lubbock High School with Buddy Holly. Had a year book signed with his picture and everything. I believe he sold that year book a few years back for $1500. And the wierd thing is Buddy Holly died on Feb 3. That my birthday. Freaky.

I'll stick to cycling related...
We've had lunch along side of and chatted with Ted Turner who was in the company of long-time friend Frederique D'Arragon shortly after 9/11 at a little country restaurant in the North Georgia mountains near his primo Trout fishing retreat. He's a regular for breakfast and lunch at what is also a regular stop for cyclists, like ourselves. He had a hard time understanding the shaved-leg thing. No entourage and pretty much the real deal: Bumper sticker on his Toyota Prius was "Save the Humans".

I was going to guess Nick Nolte, til I saw the "now clean" part.

My mom sez I was named after Johnny Cash's Aunt. My mom knew her in the Navy, a long, long time ago.
A friend of mine says that she saw Kevin Spacey at a stop-light on Foothill Blvd in Claremont CA.
My dad got Robert Vaughn's autograph for me while we were on a high school band trip to Hawaii.
That's about as connected as we get around here.

I live one block over from the house Jennifer Lopez grew up in. When I was a kid and In Living Color was on the air, I'd always hear rumors that Keenan Ivory Waynes was seen the next block over, and that his grandmother lived there. I didn't believe it at the time, but I guess there was truth to it. My two older sisters went to school with her, but they weren't friends. Just in the same grade.
And right now, as I type this, I'm in the building that John Mayer lives in. I'm the conciege. I see John Mayer all the time. He's a nice guy. Tyra Banks also owns a place here, but she doesn't actually live here. She moved her stuff in and checked the place out back in July, was here for two days (on days I wasn't working) and left. She hasn't been back since, still doing her show out in LA.
Al Gore visited my school three years ago and was featured on Hardball with Chris Matthews. I sat on the stage a few feet from Gore. The bottom half of my face was on TV!

Bike related: Greg Lemond, Gary Fisher, The guy with the Ellsworth tattoo on his leg(In the ads) can't remember his name, lots of racers. Those are people i just met breifly. I work on Dave LeDucs bikes and a couple of other high level racer dudes bikes. I replaced a fork for the CEO of Pearl Izumi after he misjudged an overhang. I work on Paul Sedaris bike. He is the brother of Amy Sedaris(strangers with candy) and David Sedaris(He did the Santa monologues and several others on NPR as well as several books) Paul is the funniest of the bunch :)
Art guys: Von Franco, he does Tiki/lowbrow art, got some sketches from him. Piraro(Bizaro) is freinds with my mom. I have a cartoon, by him, of me as a pig on a bike.
I also pumped gas into the presidental limo when Reagan came to NC(The unleaded restrictor had been cut out of the filler neck) and I pumped gas for Micheal Jordan a couple of times while he was still playing for UNC

One time on a bike ride on top of Gibraltar Road, a tourist at one of the turn-outs looking down onto S.B. asked me, "Do you know where Reagan's ranch is?". I replied, "Yeah, right over there on Figueroa Mountain." They were off by a whole mountain range!!!
Met Jay Leno at the S.B. Concours d'Elegance in '02. I handled part of the logistics of directing people to their pre-assigned display spots. He came up with his twin-turbo Bugatti which won best-of-show. Quite a car nut. Also see him down at the Comedy Club in Hermosa Beach when he drops in for impromptu shows.
Liz Hurley kicked my ass in squash a couple weeks ago.
Got gas on a pump opposite Kenny Loggins a couple of times in Montecito... never even noticed. They're not very good parents IMHO, his wife had a 5-year old brat that was demanding to be breast-fed in the grocery store, and she gave it to him!
I used to get my hair and nails done at Camille's in IV. There was this chic in there all the time that looked so familiar, figured she was in one of my classes or something. So I hit on her and turns out it was Kathy Ireland...
Installed a home wireless network for Tim Matheson last year...
Saw Christopher Lloyd at the Blue Agave bar a couple weeks ago. Walked right past him and almost muttered "Hey Chris." but thought that would be too assuming. Thought I was gonna get away without getting caught except the two chics I was with had to stop outside and gawk back into the window. He locked eyes with one of them just as she looked and she yelped and ducked...
Had Michael Jordan serve me a Black Russian once. He comes ones a year during the 1st week of school to play bartender and pick up on sorority chics...
When I worked at the YMCA, we took a group of high-school kids to Michael Jackson's ranch. An assistant gave us the grand tour (wow ). Then we all gathered back in the dining room and MJ came out, made us sandwiches and hung out. Really mellow guy, kinda like a big kid though.
I worked in a shop for over 10 years, went to all the shows, so I met all the pro bikers at one point or another. Lemond, Hampstem, Phinney, Moser, etc. Got my *ss kicked in a sprint on the backroads by Phinney. Our team got creamed by Ekimov's Russian National Team in the TTT of a stage race out here in '89. Almost got to swap him his rubberized Adidas skinsuit, but by the time I ran home to get new SBAC one, someone has already swoooped me! :(
Was hanging out with the gang at the Beach Shack club a while back. Got a drink at the end of the bar next to some little guy that was in the corner. Got my drinks and went back to my group and the chics were saying, "Hey did you see Emilio Estevez?". I didn't even notice...
Celebrities, they're a dime-a-dozen around here...
