Mountain Biking - Hey, Rocky Mountain owners.....!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Have you had any problems with your Rocky Mountain?
the guys in the mtbr forums seem to have a lot of breakages in their frames. mostly with the etsx series. they love that frame though, so they just wait for warranty replacements instead of hitching another ride. it seems rocky mountain is good with customer service, though they need to be because of all those frames breaking.
disclaimer: i do not own a rocky mountain, never have. though i did sit on one, i think 2004(?) model etsx 70, in a bike shop in bangkok this last week. i felt like a king. :D

I do not own one but I ride one every now and then and beat the hell out of it. It has held up to my big a$$. Also, a friend of mine has one that he rides the piss out of it 6 days a week over the last few years and has had no problems with the bike other then the usual components wearing out.
DBD:beer:
No problems with my Rocky hardtail.

my brother's been running a 1999 rocky mountain hammer race frame with a dual-crown ZZYZX downhill fork for about 4 years now, using it to freeride, and it STILL hasn't even had a crack.
now THAT's quality.

One usually appears when you talk about one never cracking. Just an odd way of Karma happening.

The ESTX problem was only with 2004 years where they had a weak design. The spot has been reinforced for 2005 and the frames are now much stronger.
I have a Rocky Mountain Instinct, which is one of the lightest mass-production FS frames around at 5.3 pounds. Rides awesome, feels awesome, and no problems with it at all.

I have a RM Element Signature. Best bike I have ever ridden. I have never had a single problem with it.

I don't hear too much about the Rocky Mountains but I couldn't help but to get curious about a bike with Easton 7005 frame (powder coated) outfitted with XT that was selling for $700 brand new ('05 hartail) regular price $1200.
Does ORYX count? Oh yeah its not that i think my bikes good, I just think that ORYX produced a quailty ride and that the company just couldnt get enough sales. I ve been checking around, and theres nothing on the market that compares to the SPIT FIRE for the price. It looked so good when it was new in the back of my truck. So many people were jealous. You would be amazed at how many haters are in B.C. . There just fools.

I've mentioned this before
13,600km on a 2001 RM vertex XC bike (no problems)
14,500km on a 2000 RM6 DH bike (recently retired due to wear and tear)
7,500km on a 1999 RM Turbo Road bike (no problems)
My next DH bike won't be a Rocky, but only because of $$$.

Just wondering what you wore out on the RM6

Eventually the steel bolts ovalized their holes in the aluminum linkage plates to the point where the vertical play in the back end was getting pretty excessive. I guess I could have drilled them out and used bigger bolts, but then I cracked the seat collar from raising and lowering the seat about 4,000 times... that was probably my fault. And the rear shock, which I never serviced once, was starting to look like the seals were going, and it didn't seem worth it to rebuild it. Either way, I just beat it for way too long.

I am hoping next summer to get the Dirt Jumper Frame, with a For Vanilla 130R Fork and a bunch or Race Face parts and Dark Cycles Bash Ring on there.
Or for a frame I might put the Rocky Mountain Zero frame in there. Not sure yet, I have alot of time to think about that though lol.
