Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This morning I whipped up one of the tastiest fat Spanish omelets of the trip yet. Kelly and I polished it off for a nice late breakfast after I did some stuff on the computer. After a cloudy beginning, the day turned out to be just as sunny as the last few so we took out the bikes and rode downtown. We locked them up and Kelly showed me around Victoria by foot. We hung out a bit by the water and checked out some local craft vendors. I caught up on a bit of writing and then we started back towards our bikes. On our way, we met a recumbent touring cyclist named Pierre from French Canada. He supposedly set a Guinness World Record cycling a recumbent from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Victoria in 65 days back in 1998. He was very proud of himself too, especially of the fact he had been on TV. He was selling post cards of himself and his customized recumbent bike tricked out with wood paneling. Proceeds supposedly went to support the Trans-Canada Trail, so I gave him a couple bucks for one. Kelly and I asked him about the benefits of recumbent cycling and he was more than happy to share his opinions. He was also more than happy to share his opinions of the politics of the First Nation people and how they are asking for too much compensation regarding land. Personally, I didn’t agree with him at all and the fact that he was so forthcoming about his opinions made me think that many people in Canada must share his point of view. Kelly said this was true. After our chat with Pierre, we walked back to our bikes and rode back to Kelly’s place. We ate some leftovers and then Kelly went out to an auction and then to kickboxing practice while I hung back and tried to get as much computer work done as possible without going crazy. I got a hold of Emily and she told me she was going out to a bar called Suze with some friends and then going to see a local band called The Wassabi Collective at Lucky Bar. After Kelly got back, we ate a nice dinner with a Middle Eastern theme and then got ready to go out. We walked downtown, only a short distance from Kelly’s house and met Emily at Suze. It was great to see her again. It was a bit funny thinking about how I originally met her way up in Dawson City, Yukon, and then saw her in the Queen Charlotte Islands and now again in Victoria. We talked for a bit and then went over to check out the Wassabi Collective next door at Lucky Bar. We caught a long second set and they absolutely rocked. The band threw out great energy and even better music created with drums, congas, marimbas, guitar, bass, vocals, and other cool percussion instruments. They mixed it up nicely with music from funky to African to reggae and always kept the crowd moving. By the end of the night, I was totally soaked in sweat. I left the club with sore feet and a big smile on my face. Unfortunately, I lost Kelly and I ventured off into Victoria solo thinking she’d gone home earlier. I wandered around for a little over an hour and finally found her place. After a nice hot shower, it was straight to bed. What a night. ( miles)

Peace

Dave
