Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

:D I do :D
I found that you can just about beat anything accross the intersection that has a non-turbo 4 cylinder engine. :p
Well you have to do something for Entertainment when in stop and go light to light traffic, but this is why I never feel bad about getting in front of a car in the middle of a lane when the shoulder disapears at the intersection. Because most of the time I'm able to beat them accross anyway and get back on the shoulder, so I'm not really holding them up.

I can smoke a top-fuel dragster in the 1/4mi by at least a half-second. Wait...no I can't.

Well how many of these 8000 hp tube framed things do you see on the road anyway. 0-320mph in 4.5 seconds, hmmmm do you have a chance.
I'm just wondering if anyone else gets in the middle of the lane at an intersection. People in cars sometimes look at me strange but not like they are pissed off, but more like they are curious.

But on the real, intersections are good for dragging against cars. Once some smartass was like "Hey, wanna race, ******?" I said, "B(i)tch, :D you can't even beat me to the end of this intersection" (knowing I'd get smoked in a longer race). Haughty laughs and engine revs ensued. And then...greenness. Left the car behind. A good feeling. Made me want to taunt his ass. Plus I get occasional jealous glares while flying down city streets in gridlocked traffic.

lol, there are cases where the bike is the fastest transportation. I heard that within the city center in New York it's best to take a bike if you need to get somewhere fast.
The only motorists that ever say anything to me are cars full of highschool girls. It's annoying because I'm 24 and too old to be flirting with highschool girls, all of whom seem to be looking for a college dude to date.

Yeah, ask NY bike messengers they'll tell you the same. I like city riding as much as the open road. Weaving through traffic and drafting buses...oh yeah...

Haha, do I ever not drag-race cars across the intersection, given the chance? ;) And the two key things are 1) be in the right gear to launch, and 2) stop about 2m back from the line, so you can clip in and be rolling when the light changes green. However, I do not shout challenges to the motorists. :)
Earlier this year I pulled out ahead of a Ferrari at a light . I was feeling pretty full of myself until the clown in the car ground the gears going from 1st to 2nd. Spoiled the entire effect! :(

You stole that one from me Mech. I think a better new thread would be - who doesn't weave through traffic, draft trucks and race cars? I think I could list the folks that don't. :D However, I prefer the open road and trails to city riding - city riding is to hard on the bikes.

I usually do a pretty good job drag racing SUV's here in SoCal.. I can usually smoke them across the intersection, but not too much after that... I love to yell at them.. "I'll get you soccer mom, someday !!!"
I raced against some guy on a tractor the other day.. I was going down Irvine Blvd. by my house, on my way back, some old fatty in a tractor passed me.. I was sorta winded by then, but I couldn't let him beat me... so I cranked it up on the flats going up to about 25 mph, caught him and stayed in front of him for about 4 miles before I turned off... I looked back.. he was just laughing.. but it was fun

I bet he was remembering how he used to be able to do what you're doing now, once upon a time ...
