General Cycling Discussion - Might have a new friend in the neighborhood!

Well, Im 31 married with two children. The family takes up most of my time - and keeping old friends is difficult and interests change. None of my old/current buddies understand why I road bike during any free time I get - but the other day I noticed a sweet looking litespeed sitting in the garage of a new young family that just moved into my neighborhood. It looked as though the guy was getting ready to head out for a ride. Not having any friends to ride with, it felt great having a fellow rider two houses down from me! I might have to pay him a visit to talk shop!

Yep I'd go for it like a shot. must be fate

He's probably been thinking `I wonder if there are any other cyclists near here I can ride out with'?
I wish I could find a roadie near me to share some rides with, its great for motivation too.

Yeah, but he'd still be a complete dork with a Litespeed. :)

When we moved into our house three years ago I wondered if anyone in the neighborhood would accompany me on rides and the FIRST weekend we were there I saw a team/group ride zip past the end of my driveway. When they came by again the next day (going the other way) I knew I had to find them and hook up for some training.

Here's what you can do. Instead of going over there with cake or cookies to welcome their family to the neighborhood, bring a couple tubes and a sixer. It should start up a good conversation and you will get right to the point, bikes.

We keep meeting cyclists who live in our area, usually when out on rides. During the summer, we greeted aroadie who was passing us and struck up a conversation and guess what - he lives in the area! He used to race and worked at a bike shop, and had a swell-looking Serotta. Last year a couple moved in next door- she was more of a runner, but he was getting into cycling. Now he's really into it, but they've since moved to another neighborhood. And just last wek, out on a ride, we met a guy in front of a convenience store (roadies often stop there) and he rode with us for a while- turns out he lives nearby and is interested in group rides! Last year we met another guy out on his bike, also lives a few blocks away. There is a couple who live across the street who both have nice bikes, but I don't see them riding much. There seems to be a huge amount of cyclists around here.
