Looks like Minneapolis is in for a dusting Monday and Tuesday. Have to decide what wheel set gets the Nokians.
Now where did I put those boots?

Us too naisme! My new studded tires should be here on Tuesday. I'm setting up my old Raleigh Mustang ATB for the snow/ice bike. It'll only be used when there is snow and ice on the roads.
Of course, the tires will be here AFTER this snow fall.
So how much snow did you get? Cause the guys on TV say it's coming from MT

What did you order Bob?
Hey guys!
Well, so far only an inch here. But its still coming down. They say we'll have 4" by morning.
I ordered the Nashbar studded ATB tires. They are made by Kenda. I'd like to have gotten better ones, but just did not have the funds. They are setup on my Raleigh Mustang ATB. They will only see service when there is snow and ice on the roads. Here is a link to them. :

Tomorrow will be my first run with them. I'm so excited!
EDIT: I forgot to mention that they showed up TODAY! I have them installed on the bike and am ready to roll!
We missed most of the snow. Got plenty of cold, however. The roads were intermittent snow pack and ice. A day that I would have not risked the bike commute without the new tires. They worked great!

I rode the nashbars all last winter.. when it was dry and i didnt need the studs I rode them hard to preserve stud life(so they didn't touch).. when it was slippery I rode them softer so the studs would engage.. not bad for the money.. I too wasn't ready to drop the bucks for the good tires until I knew how much I would use them.. now that I'm addicted to winter riding it's a non-issue.. but these served me just fine, time will tell how long they last..
GreyGoat, Thanks for your review of these Nashbar tires. The sure seemed to do the trick this morning.
This bike is "The SNOW BIKE." So it will only see service when there is snow and/or ice no the ground or forecasted for between commutes.
Thanks again!
Zin,
I got the same tires. I found them to perform very well last winter. I too, was afraid of stud wear and only used them when warranted. That said, i probably got a couple hundred miles on them last winter and don't see any wear.
Let us know how you get along with them. I will do the same. I keep getting tempted to buy some of the NOkians but keep asking myself why? I haven't had any trouble with the Nashbar tires yet, so i think i will keep rolling with them.
Zin,
i remember reading a lot of your commuting\winter cycling posts last winter. hadn't seen you around, but i guess it's because you have a new user name. glad to see you're still riding.
Hey Tim.
I did take a bit of a break from BF. I didn't care much for the way the forums went after the big influx of members after the U-lock publicity. Even now, I only frequent a couple of our forums here. Winter being one of my favorite. We have some of the coolest guys that are active winter cyclists in here.
Thanks for the note. ;)

Sounds like a plan. I'm not sure how many snow days we'll get this year. As Tucker can attest, the northern teir is pretty dry so far this season. Last winter we didn't have hardley any snow until the day after Christmas. This hear, unlike last year, I'm actually looking forward to the snow! :)
Hey Tucker,
The weather radar on the news looked pretty good for snow in the "Cities." How much did you get?
Not too much on the ground but the winds are pretty fierce. I'd say probably 1-2" in the west suburbs.
Hey Zin: What's that YELLOW THINGY on your Valve Stem?
I have Conti Tubes that come with Yellow cover thingys, but not like that LOL
That's one of those new fangled fancy pants valve stem light thagamagiggiess. :D
