Mountain Biking - Help ID this Bike

I need some help on this guys, I picked this up to build a single speed and would like what brand this beast is.

Note the curved chain stays.

Early-mid 90’s mountain bike, rigid on both ends, medium, 22 ½ top tube, 5” quill stem, 1” headset, steel unknown brand frame (used to be red-ish purple), curved chain stays, LX crank, LX front derailleur, Vetta saddle , Ritchey seat post, new Acera rear derailleur, Acera X hubs, Araya CV-7 rims, Trek city/cross type tires, Shimano canti brakes, 7 speed Shimano click shifters. 27-28 lb range.

Well I can't tell from looking at it, I doubt anyone can. It seems that the frame has been painted over or has lost the decals. This might raise the suspicion that the bike is stolen. If the wheels, components, seat/post, etc. came with the bike, the brand might be mentioned on them but I doubt this. Your best bet would be to take it to your LBS so they can look it over which is one luxury we lack. Post some more detailed photos of the bike along with the specs and maybe we can help you.

It's has been painted over , but the bike is not stolen.

Thats always good to know. Perhaps the paint is thin enough for you to see through for the name? Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think this is a MTB. There is no suspension along with a curved fork leads me to think that this is a cyclo cross bike which is pretty much a road bike with MTB tires. As long as you don't punish it too much it should hold up fairly well.

There are lots of hardtail MTB's with curved forks in production.....that bike does look like it has curved chainstays, too bad I cant think of a company that does that.

Maybe a reach... Any sign of a serial # on the bottom bracket?

Early 90's MTb's were bulit like this. Marzocchi first introduced their first fork in 1989. A good history lesson in suspension can be found here: http://www.firstflightbikes.com/suspensi.htm
The only frame I can remember with chain stays like that were KHS.

It's a Schwinn:D . I had two Schwinn Paramount Series 50s with that curve in the chainstays.

Just from the picture, I'd have to agree too. I had a friend in college who had a mid-level Schwinn with the same curved chainstays and curved fork. This was back in 1990. From the component spec mentioned however (assuming they're original components) the bike has to be newer... probably at least 1993.

I took it down to the LBS and It's a Schwinn:D . 1993 High Serria.

how can this not be a mountain bike? you know there are these things, that some people use, they are mountain bikes with no suspension. They are still made today, belive it or not. i ride a bike with no suspension and i make it just as well as some people i ride with. If you still dont know what a bike with no suspension is, try reading a book or going to a bikeshop or somthing.

ag2001.. I'd at least go back and see if what your talking about has already been mentioned and corrected in an above post before making your second all-time post a scathing criticism of someone elses ignorance.
