Mountain Biking - Very new to mountain biking....wondering about Fuji

Howdy guys, new to the board, just got interested in mountain bikes tonight. I ride a motorcycle to work everyday, and for recreation as well, but I need to get some exercize too. I was at Walmart tonight looking at a Mongoose XR150. After a little research I realize that this isn't really going to cut it. So now I'm looking at a Fuji Discovery 2. My main purpose will be to ride at the park with my girlfriend and son...half the time I'll be pulling a kiddie carriage. When riding solo I want to be able to do some of the stuff I used to do as a kid, jumping, stoppies...etc...

So far I'm pretty sure this is the bike I want to go with so any feedback would be very helpful. I'm 6', 140lbs BTW

I'm also new to the sport and I picked up a Discovery 2. I really like the frame and the bike as a whole is holding up well to some hard riding. The components are not the highest quality but I knew this when I bought it. It fit my budget and I am upgrading as I break things... one problem is that things are not breaking as quickly as I was hoping :)

I am 6'1" 200lbs and haven't had any problem with 4' drops. I had a major crash this weekend and had to replace the rear der. but the wreck would have broken any other der. no problems with what you want it for.

The weak spot for me has been the front shock, it can't handle my weight as well as I wold like, agai this shouldn't be a problem for you.

Go for it, you will like the bike.

Welcome to the sport and the forums. Fuji makes a decent entry-level bike. Nothing spectacular, but nothing negative as well. Their line is only entry to mid level stuff, but it's comparable to other manufacturers. I know you can get some decent deals online.

As far as forks, they definately come with lower end stuff. If you're doing 4'0" drops and weight 200+ (like me!) I'd stick with a coil sprung fork. I personally prefer Marzocchi's over any other. Their Z3 is considered one of the best forks for the money!

The Z1 is everything you could ask for in a fork, but it'll set you back a bunch of Franklins.
