Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Chicago: Ride on Tuesday night?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Now that all those out of town hosers are gone we can get back to having fun.
Tuesday, 9pm, Wicker Park?
I have a bunch of beer left over from a get together I had this weekend. I'll use the ride as an excuse to free up some space in my fridge.
If you made it 9am, I'd be down ;)

Looks like Thursday is the first break in the weather, if you want to trust a forecast that far out. But I'd be down pretty much for any clear night this week.

Agreed. Let's see what all we can cram in G.b.x.'s fanny pack.

Two (2) cans of beer (upright), one (1) pack of cigarettes I shouldn't be smoking anyway, one (1) pair of rubbers gloves, one (1) suture packet and one (1) surgical mask. You know, just in case we find any souvenirs.

any ideas on a destination...in other words, will we end the ride by getting some grub?

It's possible. I will be bringing some leftover alcohol from home. 1 bottle of some Rogue hazelnut beer, some Trader Joe's Winterfest, Negra Modelo, and 1 other beer that I can't remember. After riding and drinking we can decide if we feel like eating.
We'll decide where to go when we get there.

We can vote, of course, but I think we've proven that we're not northside-biased by going south the last two times...so maybe we can go north again.
Might not be a bad idea to let the southside cool off for a week, at any rate.

NS sounds good to me.
We can hit the handlebar after a ride to the far north and then back down the lake path, maybe? When does their kitchen close?

My commute down my hallway from the bedroom to my office was a little chilly so I put on a sweater and some thick socks. BRISK!
EDIT: tomorrow is gonna be colder than today! I am so psyched. I might go buy a balaclava tonight.

Were you wearing the PI shorts that you favor?

Where? I think I need some better gloves...maybe some baselayers.

I WAS wearing the shorts. With tights underneath, tho.
By the time I got to work I was plenty warm.

Where would a guy who works for Moosejaw Mountaineering go to buy a balaclava..hhhmmmmmm...........
The stores are allw ell stocked in the standard North Face balaclava, but I am hoping the store at webster and clybourn will have an Outdoor Research one.
For gloves I am going with thick wool gloves with my fingerless gloves over them for some traction.
I'm cool for baselayers. Might need some thick tights to go under my jeans though..and to cover up my exposed legs. I wish I could afford some softshell pants right now.

Also: should we just have a CHICAGO thread? Like, all Chicago all the time?
That way we won't clog the boards with multiple repeat threads....this is the SOP on other boards I post on, fwiw.

That would be a good idea, much like the Boston Rides, Prospect Rides, etc.
As for glove baselayers - I'm currently running a Cannondale fleece glove with all these sticky rubber nubbins on them (all the better to grip handlebars with, dear).
However, I typically use cheap wool gloves from the Army Surplus underneath Windstopper Marmot gloves.

Oh yeah, duh. I didn't realize that was a Moosejaw. In fact, I'm not sure I realized that they had retail outlets. Well, cheers.
Chicago has owned this forum forever. FG/SS exists for Chicagoans to post threads like "Hey, What Time Is It?" and receive an answer faster than they could look at their watches.
Let the DC Pirates stick to one thread...
Heh. I think that's because when this forum first started there were 5 people from Chicago on this forum ([165], skitbraviking, dumpstervegan, myself and mayo) and maybe 2 people (William Karstens, etc) from elsewhere.
