ok so i finally worked things out with the insurance company, and it looks like they are going to fork over a whopping 500 dollars.
Soooo I now have a budget of about 650 with some cash that i have, any suggestions on a new ride? I know this is not a lot of cash but that is why i am having trouble finding something.
thanks for any suggestions.

The obvious, oft-mentioned IRO.
You could get an Angus for that, and they're really sexy.

$650 for a complete bike, I assume?

Aside from the oft mentioned IRO, since you're in Boston you could go down to Harris, and check out the Raleigh Rush Hour, and Bianchi Pista and whatever else they might have there in person. http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/fixed.html

A lot of punditry goes on here about these bikes, but if someone around here had some and I was looking to buy in that price range I'd be sure to take them both for a spin.

As much as I like folks here, and join in on the punditry myself. I trust my ass' opinion on a bicycle more than I trust all of YOUR ass'es opinions. ;)

Do you have anything still usable from the crunched bike? If you have enough stuff left over, you could get a new frame and at least a decent rear wheel for your 650 shekels.
