Touring - Tour DeFrance tour?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
My New Zealand tour in December has been aborted, new teaching job, will have to focus on the summer trip. Anyway, wouldn't it be neat to do a best of the Tour DeFrance tour? Pick out the best stages from the Tours of yester-year, link them all together, and you've got yourself a nice month long tour. Can anyone recommend some books or websites that would help with route research? Thanks for the help.
PS> This would be a self-supported tour.

Not really I'm afraid, but someone published a funny novel last year about his riding the tour. I can't remember what it's called, but if you search amazon it'll defo be on there. might not be technically massively helpful, but am sure will give u an idea of the route, and which bits are interesting or not...

good luck!
You can find detailed route descriptions for the last three tours from the Tour's homepage (http://www.letour.fr/indexus.html).
Another great source for information about the Alps is Virtual Alps (http://www.cycling.uk.net/alps/). It was a great help when planning the tour through the Alps I did with a friend last year.

Thanks for the info. I am reading that book one of you mentioned it is called, French Revolutions, by Tim Moore...it is quite funny and a contributing factor to my tour idea. I highly recommend the book and the author is English as well. Thanks again. Zach
