I used to road race on Guerciotti-Alan bikes back in the early 80's. I was introduced to Paolo Guerciotti who was a top cyclo-cross racer and frame builder in Italy. As a distributor, he would send me Alan frames with his Guerciotti decals from Italy. I built my bikes up with Campagnolo SR components. The Guerciotti-Alan frames were very light. You would have to be a fairly light rider for this frame. Heavier riders would find this frame too soft. One problem you need to check is these frames over time always had a tendency to develop a crack in the upper head tube lug. My frames never failed but this crack revealed that the frame was fatiguing. You might want to check this out in the bike you are considering to purchase.

$650 is high, imho.

Depends on the vintage, but generally, SR has titanium bolts and some black on the rear derailleur, chainrings without the reinforcing inner ring (less is more!), holes in the front brake levers, an alloy (versus steel) headset, pedals with black alloy cages, and a one-bolt seatpost. This description works for SR from 1978 on - the earlier SR is much more like NR (and because it is rare, increases the value greatly). Earlier SR has a two-bolt seatpost, for example, but the post has flutes and alloy cradles that hold the saddle rails. An early rear SR looks just like NR, but has black pivots and the front parallogram says "Super Record" (and it has titanium pivot bolts).

Fullzoot SR will also have titanium bottom bracket axle, hub axles and pedal axles, but these are fragile and most people opted not to include them when ordering the group from campy (Super Record Reduced is what it was called, I think).

I watched a 1975 Alan that was anodized in gold, with gold ano wheels and a smattering of parts (not complete) sell for $285 last weekend (~$50 shipping as well). This was a particularly nice one, even though it wasn't complete.

I'd guess a more realistic number might be $350 with NR, $450 with SR, if the bike is nice...but those are eBay prices, and your geographic area may cause the price to vary up or down.

Most of the Guerciotti/ALAN bikes I've seen were equipped with Campagnolo Victory or Triomph, like this one:

But, a few were around with Super Record too:

I bought a brand new frameset, apparently identical to that pictured, with 130 dropout spaing for $250 shipped.Pretty thing, but haven't got around to sticking parts on it. Maybe I'll turn it into wall art, or a towel rack
