Out of town Thursday through Saturday. Maybe Sunday ride?
I'm everybodies domestique.

Ditto - I'd be interested if I were around, but we're heading to Central Oregon Wednesday through Saturday. Sunday is a possibility, so let me know if a few of you are heading out. I'd plan a group route around Charbonneau-Champoeg, but I don't think I'll have internet access that whole time I'm gone. Probably not the best idea to post a time and meeting place, and then be unavailable for 4 days for any follow-up questions. Maybe I'll plan that ride for two weeks from yesterday?

So I forget one other ride note for last week.
I promised a social "no drop" ride. So we are 30 minutes or so into it. Riding, chatting, everyone is having fun. When we hit the first hill. Not even a hill, but an extended rise...
So FormulaBen and I are leading and laughing and telling lies and spinning along and minding our own business when out of the corner of my eye there is red bluuuuuuuuur.
Yup, 55 attacks me hard. Taunting me as he tries to pull away. So I get (almost) alongside of him he's still calling me out on this hill. We got to the top winded, laughing our @asses off with Jakey right on 55's wheel. Yeah, he beat me.
The group catches up wondering, "What the heck was THAT all about?"
Just fun and games...
-----------------
dtrain - I really like riding out by you. Your call. I will show up any AM.
55 - You call it for Sunday. I can make it then as well. I am sorry you are going to be out of town. We'll miss you. Have a great Thanksgiving.
velocity - let's see who else is down for it.

You forgot to mention my words as I started this blitz from the rear of the pack:
"On every 'social' ride, there is always some jerk who's gotta start something when no one is expecting it - it's my turn!"
Oh, and don't sell yourself short there Dino - reminder to everyone that he was on the mountain bike.
And I might add that it was Fishmel and Jakey that beat everybody up the real hill later in the ride.

I'm definitely out for Thursday, as I'm babysitting a big bird...but I might be able to do a Sunday ride.
I would be up for a Thursday morning ride. Do you have a time and place yet? Would also be up for a Sunday ride as well.
I can do Thursday and Sunday. Let me know when & where. Will be good to expend the energy before the BIG FAT dinner that will await me.

P.S: How abt a ride from Hillsboro to Henry Hagg Lake & back. Has anyone in this forums done that?

I was hoping to quietly sneak up on you all this Saturday (the typical Sunday rides never work for me because of the marathon training), but alas, it didn't work out. It was a beautiful day for a ride; sorry I missed it.
If nothing else, I'll be sure to make a ride with you folks after my April run in Boston.

Anybody else want to organize one for Thursday? I'm still open.

Velocity: Care to do the Hillsboro to Haag Lake? Anybody else? I don't know the route, but with GMaps it should not be too difficult. Somebody will need to arrange for a meeting point though. Shute Park maybe?
Dino: I can do Sunday.
Sunday is a no-go for me. this weekend looks lost.

I'll ride any day. I loved the Hillsboro - Hagg Lake idea that follows the LA route - that was an awesome ride. Thursday? Friday? Saturday? Sunday? pick 4.

Thursday morn. We can start by 8:30AM. Approx RT is about 40 miles. Should be done with the ride no later than 1PM with OCP stops if any. Especially at the lake. Shute Park?
Anybody else?

Where are you starting from? What time exactly? I would be up for the ride but I have to be home by 1 so I would need to finish by 12-12:30. Still up for Sunday also.

Start & End Shute Park, Hillsboro, OR
RT 39.9 miles
At an avg speed of approx 12mph (this includes OCP activities, cafe breaks, etc ...) we are looking about 3hrs 45 mts. Hence if we start by 9AM, we should be done by 12:45 or much earlier.
I presume it is not that hilly and flat.

Mere hearsay and rumor until photos are posted!
Did no one have a digital camera on the ride? Honestly, now, people. I thought you were BikeForum.net posters and understood the rules of a group ride!
Strike a pose!
Agreed.
You guys are talking about a 2nd ride (and the lowly Lakers) and there's still no pics from the 1st ride?

I'll come to Shute Park at 8:45
Anybody know the route? Don't count on me for route finding.
See ya!
If you are going around Hagg Lake, I can assure you there will be some climbing to do.
Have fun.

climbing's ok if you can tolerate slow. The hardest thing about cycling is maintaining cadence and speed without pushing too hard on the pedals.

39 miles
Total Ride time: 3 hrs 1 minute
Start: 8:50AM
End: 12:50 PM
Got up late and hustled out of the door, thinking I was going to be late meeting brett & tanguy frame. Pulled into the parking lot around 8:20AM and saw someone waving to me after seeing the bike on the trunk rack. Opened the car door and ... it was COLD. Freezing. 32*F. Damn.
I introduce myself to tanguy frame and we start to set our resp' bikes. Did I mention it was COLD?. We wonder where brett is and think he maybe on the other side. We ride up there and don't see him. We decide to head out. Both of us comment at the same time, that if one of us hadn't shown up, we would have gone home to warm beds.
IT IS COLD. FREEZING COLD. We start heading west on Hwy 8 and get onto 47 pretty quickly. Just before we make the turn to Scoggins Valley, I had to stop and warm my feet. It was freezing and I was not 'equipped' properly. (Still learning about this road biking thing. :D )
Decide that this might as well be an OCP moment & put rest to other posts that we did not have a camera (!!!):

We mount our bikes after getting some blood flow into our toes and wonder if we have to turn back. Decide that we will atleast see the water and then make the decision if we want to do the loop. Ok. We ride. We see the lake and decide we want to ride more. (Wonder of wonders. Even though the temp is still at 0*C). There is a new paved road and it was pleasure to ride that one. In between another round of doubts about whether to turn back or not, we continue. And glad we did.
There was ice (thick black ice) on the road, where I almost skidded and powdered snow over one of the bridges. Snow on the ground. We had fun all the way. Stopped for another round of feet warming and more pix.
Proof that we were @ Hagg Lake.

Riding back it started to drizzle and I had to finally stop at the store (at the entrance to Hagg Lake) and decide to replinish water and ... stuff my shoes with paper. That stopped the cold. Rode back to Shute Park fairly quickly.

I got therse really neat neoprene booties for rain and cold. Wouldn't you know it - I set up everything the night before, but left the booties out. I had used them Wednesday and didn't put them away.... As Magesh said, it was cold. I thought I'd loose my feet in my really thin OCP socks (new, white), and my really light mesh shoes. Fortunately, I had these zip off pants (no, not cycling pants, street pants). So I unziped the legs and wraped my feet in them, and they blocked enough of the wind to let me survive. I even warmed up after 6 miles. I carried a trunk bag so I could shed clothing as it warmed up. NOT. I'm really glad we rode today, but if Magesh hadn't showed up I would not have hesitated to go back home to bed.
Some of you Northerners may scoff at the relatively mild riding weather we enjoyed today, but up her in the PNW, it usually doesn't get cold, and our blood may have thinned since we lived in colder climes. Mine sure has.
It was a really fun ride. Next time I'll look more closely at the LA route map because riding on 8 and 47 gets you to Hagg Lake, but the LA route was sure more beautiful and relaxing.

looks like y'all had a great ride!! ... i do have to comment on burgers.
Cheeseburger in Paradise in Maui was yum ... a restaurant with great burgers.
In and Out is real food that happens to be fast. The Best.
Burgerville doesn't really taste good at all. Highly over rated.
Someone mentioned Hot and Now? From what I remember it tastes like cafeteria food.
