Bicycle Mechanics - Centaur Soloist cable changes

It's time to re-cable my Cervelo Soloist again, this time, I'm doing it myself.

For the Campy experts: does it matter if I replace the 4.5mm cable with 5mm cable? It's easier to source. I know I will need new ferrules.

How can I adjust the front deraileur once it's cabled up? There are no barrel adjusters. Is it possible to retrofit barrel adjusters on the soloists downtube? Seems possible??

Anyone been there and done that would be helpful...thx.

The .5mm isn't a deal killer. There are plenty of universal cables. Some may have larger heads and need to be dressed down a bit to fit campy shifters. Dont try forcing one into the shifter if it's tight. www.parktool.com repair section has the drill on FD adjustment.Obviously the adjuster is not needed with campy as it apparentrly had been setup and functioning without one. Just pull the slack out of the cable when seting it up. if the Cervelo frame cannot acomodate an adjuster, there are inline ones.

I've gone ahead and just done it. Switching to 5mm cable housings is actually slightly better, because the cables are stronger. Turns out the bike doesn't have barrel adjusters for the front deraileur because it doesn't need it. Once high/low is set, just decent tension makes it perfect.
I went with Campy cables for two reasons-I'm not drilling out anything, and they have a pointed end that threads easily and the cable seems to be very high quality.
Another tip is ally cable ends from Cannondale -they are tiny and do the job well.

Another tip is ally cable ends from Cannondale -they are tiny and do the job well.You don't have to 'drill out' anything. if the head on a replacement cable is a bit big,you take material off the head of the cable end.I mentioned the business about not needing an adjuster....But whatever...Ain't just grabbin the seat of your pants and just doing it great?
