I know there are several threads on this subject, but I have never seen a poll. Tomorrow AM will be my first ride in a long, long, time where i won't have the clipless pedals. IT is supposed to be around 20 F with strong wind in morning and I don't think my regular clipless shoes will cut it.

So i am going to resort back to my winter hiking boots with platforms. I would love to have a pair of the Lake Winter boots but can't see dropping that much money on a pair of cycling shoes that I won't wear but a few months of the year.

What about you?

Edit> I know that everyone won't feel the same need to switch at the same temps. Please just respond based on what you do when you feel it is too cold to wear the same setup you use in warmer temps.

The only time I changed to different footwear was when I did a century at -30C. I wore Sorel boots for that.

I wear toe covers and thicker socks - not one of the available choices.

Un-mentioned option: I just ordered the Lake 301's for winter. And why not? I have winter boots for off the bike.

I wear Redwing boots with or without toe clips all year except for longer rides in the winter I will switch to my Baffin pac boots to keep warm.

Time ATACs, Specialized Taho shoes, wooly socks, Altura Shield overshoes if it's soggy.
