Bicycle Mechanics - Good news, the Third Hand is staying in business

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I placed an order with the Third Hand just before they were to close their doors. Below is an excerpt from the eMail they sent me when my order shipped:

"We are mostly out of the tool business (except for the closeouts you see on our web site). We WILL continue parts sales through our web site, via FAX and via mail. (Sorry no phone sales.) The 10% sale ended April 15, but all the remaining tools have been marked down, as you can see on our site.

Initially we intended to go completely out of business since, as a small company, we were completely OVERWHELMED with requests for special orders and technical information. After more than 20 years in the business, though, quitting was easier said than done. Refocusing on the older parts and eliminating telephone calls has helped us enormously, so for informed home mechanics, we hope our web parts listing will be helpful. Sorry for the confusion."

If you do your own work on your bike and aren't an upgrade freak, this is good news for you.

Outstanding news about The Third Hand. Tools can be purshased at many places, but the small parts they offer are hard to find. Where can you find Weinmann lever covers? (Who else would want them?) Small bits like 6-speed cogs and faux-Suntour pulleys are irreplacable.
