Mountain Biking - SPD pedals and cleats compatibility

Hi everybody!

Just popped in to ask a quick question from you savvy old foxes: are all SPD cleats and pedals compatible with each other? Shimano, Ritchey, Wellgo.. can I use one with the cleat of the other?

Not sure about Ritchey or Wellgo, but Shimano and TIME cleats are not compatible. They have very different mechanisms and specific cleat designs that will only work with their own pedal.

Joe Pozer - that is because time pedals are not spd's and Shimano pedals are. ;)

LoFarkas - most of them are interchangable even though not recommended by the different manufacturer's. The only way to know for sure is to try them though.

please refrain from using aol ease on the forum :D

each type of pedal(time, shimano, crank brothers etc.)they have cleats for them. pedals usually come with cleats.

and i have a Q does spd stand for anything, if so what?

shimano pedal design, I think. those guys must have been what the moderators were talking about when asking folks not to speakandtext . wellgo is a shimano clone. Ritchey uses SPD cleats also but not perfectly. get their cleats for a better fit

Anyway, thanks for the meaningful posts and sorry for the offtopic communication with a fellow countryman. And no, I'm not the one the mods are complaining about. This is single freak occurrance...

it's not easy.. even within the sam MFGer they are not universal.. Shimano lists different cleat numbers and not all are shown to be compatible with all SPD pedals... go figure..

no, I mean they were saying the aolese is hard for those who dont understand English very well. you guys ,I thought, may have been examples of those who speak English as a nonfirst language.
