Take the old one out, use hammer put cloth over new one so you don't scratch it and hammer it in.

You don't hammer in an integrated/internal headset. That's the whole goddamn point.

edit: Didn't you claim to work at a bike shop, racersk66? I find that even more incredibly hard to believe now than before, after your moronic answer to his question.

Press the lower race onto the bottom of the steerer, as you normally would with a regular headset. Then grease the bearings, and insert them into the integrated cups on the headtube. Then slide the steerer through the headtube, and install the upper race. Then put on your spacers and stem, tighten the top bolt, and then tighten your stem's clamping bolts.

SOLID SHOULD MAKE AN INTEGRATED VERSION OF THEIR HEADSET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Considering the fact that Solid can't even legally manufacture their headsets anymore, and the only way to buy them is to get them from stores that bought them en masse prior to the conclusion of the lawsuit, that would be impossible.

Lawsuit? Enlighten me, please. Knowledge is power.

The top race of the Solid headset is attached to an expanding spacer that tightens/loosens the headset via grub screw. Cane Creek (if I remember correctly) had patented the design years ago, unbeknownst to Aaron Huff (the owner of Solid).

When the Solid headset became pretty popular, Cane Creek filed a lawsuit over the patent, and won, forcing Solid to stop manufacturing the headsets, and to stop selling any remaining stock. Luckily, though, Empire and Albes (and possibly Staff) bought up a ton of the headsets prior to the settlement, and they continue to distribute them; Dans apparently is selling off their remaining stock as well.

Is that the feature that makes them good, or is there something else to them?

cane creek has a headset like the solid...?

or they're just jerks?

Oh god, those expanding spacers are ASS. I didn't know Solid put those on their headsets.

As for the integrated headset, a thin coat of grease on the contact points goes a long way. If you still get squeaking in the headset, Loc-Tite 680 (the green stuff) is what we sometimes have to use. And if you're using a hammer, I don't have to tell you you're a ******.

I can't say that I've ever had a problem with mine, but the top race from an unsealed Pig also fits.

They *might* work with a little teflon tape or blue Loc-Tite, never tried it, only ridden them on demo bikes and they always seems to wiggle or rattle or otherwise come loose in a very short amount of time.
