Cyclocross - The most random thing happened in Math

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Im sitting in my math class staring out the window...errr....paying attention :D and out of no where, BAM, I see 8 CX guys going right past my school on our field, and I said somewhat quiet "What the heck? What are CX guys doing on our field?" Then the girl sitting next to me is thinking "Are you ok??" and then about 10 mins later there they are again, and she said "what are bikers doing on the field"
After i try to tell them about CX, and how I am pretty sure there is a CX race on the high school the bell rings.
It was just so random having these CX guys just appear!

It could just be a conventient place to practice. We practice on the Duke campus on Thursday mornings and I'm pretty sure some of the student's are a little surprised to see a group ride up to an imaginary line, jump off their bikes, jump over imaginary barriers, remount their bikes and ride on, over and over and over again.

Similar story to mine. I did my first race a few weeks ago and needed to practice dismounts and hopping back on the bike. I rode to a little used athletic field near my house and was practicing. To make things better it had just rained. Next to the field were a row of houses and after riding the lap and jumping over the imaginable barriers I saw two small children staring at me through a window. I gave a quick wave to acknowledge them and continued to practice. I did several more laps and the kids didn't budge. It was like I had my own private audience. Obviously it made me concentrate more so I didn't screw up. I think it actually helped. At the next race I did much better through the barriers and will probably make it a habit to stop by and practice my dismounts once a week for 15-20 minutes. I can only imagine what the kids were thinking!

CX lawn jobs?
what's also fun is practicing dismounts and running remounts on my commute, at stop signs, for example. You know how motorists are always complaining about cyclists blowing stop signs. Imagine their surprise at the big production of a CX style dismount, come to a complete stop, let puzzled cross-traffic pass, then run at full speed through the intersection and plop back on your seat! Swee-EEET!
ps--I hope it was a class in probability and statistics!
