Commuting - Cool Commuter bike

I just saw the coolest bike for commuting today. It was an old schwinn, one of the ones with the long looping seat stays that run all the way to the front of the bike. It was matte black with 26 inch slicks and mtb brakes. It was a single speed as well. They put a mtb riser bar on it, the thing just looks awesome. Retro forever!:beer:

actually it wasnt for sale, I just saw it in the bike rack at school. I am planning to build one up like it this winter. It will be like my bike pimpmobile.:p

I used to have a '72 Schwinn Typhoon cruiser. It was great for commuting shorter distances and was a lot of fun to ride. In a moment of stupidity I sold it. I've regretted it ever since. Check out this site for some cool rides.

I have always wanted to purchase an old cruiser... I had the chance to pick up a 3 speed beach cruiser at a yard sale earlyer this year for $10, i went home to pick up a few bucks, the bike was gone within the hour.

Thanks for the link, Joe. I hadnt seen that before, but it is almost identical to the one I saw. I love those old retro bikes, lots of style. :D

Madwagon is somewhat local to myself. I'm seriously thinking about picking up one of their cruiser's, add some fenders, a riser bar, and a new saddle, your all set for a sub $200 commuter with all the style you can handle :)

I just got my 1970's Schwinn in better shape for commuting, and have ridden it for the last two weeks. It really has a nice feel, heavy as it is. I'll get a photo of it posted sometime.

Another fun site is www.oldroads.com They have a neat pic page that you can spend hours looking through.

I like the 1960's middleweight space-race bikes. They had sleek designs AND tanks with lights. Plus, they were not as heavy to ride as the heavyweight fat-tire cruisers. You should see the cool machine I ride in winter. I'll post a pic when I figure out how to use my new digital camera.

I love what this guy does with these old bikes. The styling is right on and he uses some modern parts to improve on these classics.
