Hey. is the brake cable supposed to cross over on a u brake? like behind the seat post tube but before the brakes...

it croses over itself on mine and it looed like thats what it was suposed to do in the instructions but im not sure. it seems like you loose alot of power because it squeezes the seat post tube

Mine are crossed behind the seat tube thats the only way I've ever seen it or have set it up. so cross them in the back. but so you dont scratch the frame up take electrical tape and wrap it aound the seat post where the cables are.

KinetikBiker

what exactly do you mean...?

can you explain more...

KinetikBiker

like are you talking about the cable it self or the hanger (the peice that interlocks the cable and the straddle cable(which is the one that attaches to the brake itself))

hoonstreet3

then the cables will stick... i dont really care about how my frame looks..

CMcMahon

There is absolutely no reason to cross the cables up behind the seattube. All it does is increase the cable length and mess up the brake line.

Dude. Stop giving advice. PLEASE.

JMC

yes, u can cross em. you should have gotten a little plastic bitty that wraps around the frame and the cables run through it if you want them to do that. some people argue that it "gives extra leverage" but its pretty much a fallacy.

once again, i think we all know that beerman is right, no cross needed.

broomhandle

i just picked up a older GT, and it has U-brakes, ive never even seen these. mine were crossed over and i thought that was wrong so i uncrossed it. but when i apply the brakes they dont come back, is there some trick to these brakes? i dont see any springs. im already starting to hate them.

CMcMahon

If your brakes don't have any springs, then they're obviously not going to snap back...

Brian

I don't see any on the Evolver...

CMcMahon

You're kidding, right? You get two sets with the Evolver, hard and soft, depending on how you like them.

edit:

Brian

I said I didn't see them. I'm used to V brakes, with exposed springs. The ones on the Evolver are not visible.

Next time I'll use the [/sarcasm] tags.

broomhandle

like i said, ive never seen u-brakes before. is there suposed to be a spring like a V-brake? on the post there is no mount, or little hole for a spring, otherwise i would put a V-brake on. are U-brakes suposed to be like that?

Brian

The loading is done internally. There should be some kind of cap where the brake mounts to the post. With the Evolver, you loosen the mounting bolt, and use a 17mm wrench to load the spring.

dooley

As far as I know crossing cables is supposed to simulate running the straddle cable very short, and it does give a sligtt mechanical advantage.

broomhandle

so if you have U-brake mounts, that's your only option? im sure its possible for the springs to go bad, or start to suck right?

how do yo evolvers work ex?

everyone told me they were garbage but i dont have a single problem with mine. jw if im lucky or if everyone is sayin that becuase there not all trendy like the fly brakes.

cuz we all know if your bike doesnt match up to the trends its not a good bike.

Mine came with 2 sets, just like Beerman said.

They arreally nice for dirt, they give a good stop atleast with kool-stop pads.

Don't listen to everyone. They seem like they'll be ok once they're all adjusted. They don't seem to work well with a gyro, but I'm kind of determined to try and sort that out first before I go with a straight cable.

Mine came with 2 sets, just like Beerman said.

Now go back and read the whole thread.

I_Suck_At_BMX

yea i run my evolvers with a straight cable and they work better than any brakes i ever had, so i just didnt no if i was lucky or if kids were just saying that becuase evolvers "aint cool enough" to be a good bike part.

Brian

If cool was a concern, I would have gotten a custom titanium frame made. I like things that work well. That's always my first concern.

KinetikBiker

FLY BRAKES....
yay

or PRIMO BRAKES..

yay

I removed this message becuase my bad grammar is starting to annoy me too. Ex, feel free to delete my posts if I use bad grammar, it's the only way I'm going to learn.

Brian

I don't delete posts or correct spelling due to bad grammar. I only remind you guys to try and do a little better. Mis-typing is one thing, happens to all of us. But if it's so bad that it hurts to read it, you'll hear about it. Oh, I do edit thread titles a lot, as they're usually a mess.

KinetikBiker

thank you mr moderatorexpat

mude

just use a stradle cable...makes life easier.

KinetikBiker

all U-brakes use a straddle cable.

mude

if he's using a straddle cable then why is he having like 2 cables crossed and all that jazz.
PIC!

KinetikBiker

he modified his cable hanger to accept spokes for his straddle cable...so they dont snap as much....but all U-brakes have some sort of straddle cable unless the person has modified theirs to accept a chain or spokes...

racersk66

I have one with chain, its useless.

FuzzyRyder

not all u brakes have a stradle cable, you can run dual cables right to the brake if you want.

Brian

I have one with chain, its useless.

And rather than try to set them up properly, you thought you'd just whack a disc on there...

mude

haha kinetiks an idiot

thats not for a straight cable..which i was talking about...i wasnt talking about gyro's

racersk66

Nah I'm still doin that.

KinetikBiker

rawr.

FuzzyRyder

you should have stated that then, you said "ALL" u brakes have some sort of stradle cable. haha

KinetikBiker

and you should stop sucking at life.

FuzzyRyder

lol, woah man, take it easy. I wasnt trying to be offencive or anything.

KinetikBiker

i was kidding...now lets move on.

mude

i was kidding
no you werent

mude

once again im right

hoonstreet3

you guys are all really immature... how old are all of you anyway??? Im 15 and i dont act like you...lol

hoonstreet3

and also, whoever said you can run dual cables all the way is really stupid beacuse even if you have a gyro, that meand you need to take apart the y thing thats right by the gyro and get new cables to go all the way which is really stupid... i dont even know why odyssey makes that london mod anyway...really stupid

FuzzyRyder

what are you talking about? those y cables that come stock with gyro's suck, you get a way smoother brake set up if you run dual cables from the gyro

racersk66

you guys are all really immature... how old are all of you anyway??? Im 15 and i dont act like you...lol
16 just to let you know.

queensrider86

you stole that other guys signature....unoriginal loser
