No spoilers. I haven't seen it yet, and my last read in the series was POA.

Oh man... I watched the midnight premiere... I honestly think it's the best movie thus far! I can't wait for the next one! (and the book, for that matter :P)

the movie skipped so much stuff. very little detail inbetween the main parts. the parts they showered were good but if you had not read the book you may get lost.

too long (G) but looks like jenny won't be as good looking and in the books she is the babe. no real way to see into the future how some girl will turn out when she grows up.

The movie was definitely the best yet....probably because this was the coolest story yet.
But.....as stevenknight says, they cut a LOT out of this movie. I heard they originally were going to to do two movies for the story, but then changed their minds. So there are entire portions of the story that were just skipped.
I want to go see it.I just don't think it will be this weekend.Hermione well she is a babe now.In real life I think she is about 19 but I don't know that for sure.Might be just wishfull thinkin.
I am not worried about spoilers.I know how it will end.but I do wish that I had some insight on the next book.

It was overall-good, had a lot of great effects, but seemed like a bunch of chapters that were condensed for the screen and then slapped together. I wanted to feel sad and scared at times, but couldn't. My geek friends tell me the third movie is still the best, because of the direction (different director).
Very few movies stay faithful to the book. I at least admire them for sticking mostly to the overall plot of the book and not throwing in some crap that we have no idea about just to fill in some extra time.

WTF??!! I posted my detailed review earlier, but it got bumped? I've been up since six a.m. ( had 2 work) so, I'm going to bed and re-post it in the morning...In short, the movie, like the books, was 'magical'. 4 1/2 out of 5 spokes.

Just got back from the movie. It was great, very entertaining.
Two gloved thumbs up!
My sis and I always see them together ever since the 1st one came out. lol I guess its sorta like a tradition haha.
going today.
I saw a program on the making of Goblet and
the book was over 700 pages, the screenplay
was 120. Of course they had to cut parts out
just hope they didn't cut too much
will report back later.

You don't know how many people think they hit the reply button, but they actually hit something like the spam button instead, so the post goes to the moderators' forum instead of to the thread. Or they get timed out of the forums because they didn't click the "remember me?" box when they signed in, and the post gets lost.
Rest assured, it was probably one of those quirky things. I'm looking forward to seeing your review. But this time, do it in wordpad and copy and paste it just in case something happens.

When you use the initials 'gf', I'm assuming you mean your girl friend is awesome, not your goblet of fire...
Not that there's anything wrong with that... ;) (Harry Potter OCP?)

LOVED IT! I was surprised they led with the tournament. They cut a lot out. I suppose it was best to leave out certain aspects (house elves) in order to concentrate on major characters. I wondered how he'd get the gillyweed though, when I discovered Doby wasn't in the film. I was really looking forward to see how they would bring the prefects bath to the big screen...looked as grand as it did in my mind!
I might see it again tomorrow. Leave the cookin to the women (well...women who can cook!)
Weird... no Dobby? That kind of makes no sense, since he seems to be important in that book. But then again, I could be on crack too.

There was way too much content for it to
ever be included in the movie.
I give props to the director in that he held the story
together even though alot was cut from the book
(house elves, Rita Skeeter's only a bit player,
Ludo Bagman and the bet with the twins, no
goblins, no hogsmeade. I could go on )
wait till you see the movie, it will all
make sense then.

Wow. Have not been yet, but I hope to go tomorrow.
I went and it was pretty good.for the most part they stuck to the book but one of the people died that did not in the book.I know that he plays apart in the next book.now they will have to fix it.
The kids are going today.I know that they will like it.

Who are you referring to?
there are only 3 people who die in
the movie (and book)
the caretaker at the beginning, Barty Crouch sr. and Cedric Diggory

I took my nieces to see GoF this past Friday, my nieces are Harry Potter fanatics. I've never read any of the books, or seen the previous movies.
On the positive side, the kids in the cast are cute and very likable. My favorite child character is the red-headed boy, "Ron". The girl, whose character's name I won't attempt to spell, is also a little cutie. Another "child" character that I found really funny was "Moaning Myrtle". After the movie, I found out that 15 year old Myrtle is played by a 39 year old actress!!
There were quite a few fine performances by the adult characters, but my favorite is Professor Dumbledorn (spelling?). I've been a big fan of Michael Gambon for years -- "The Singing Detective", starring Gambon, is one of my faves.
On the downside, this movie is way too heavy on the special effects, yes I know it's fantasy, but what every happened to letting kids use their imaginations? Second, the soundtrack is way too loud -- something that seems to afflict most movies these days. The soundtrack was so blaring, that I left the theater with a headache -- my youngest niece held her hands over her ears during some of the scenes. I also thought that this movie was a bit too intense for pre-teens.
Overall I thought the movie was OK but not great. If it wasn't for my nieces, I probably would not have seen this movie, but I'm not sorry that I spent $6.50 for the matinée either.

"but what every happened to letting kids use their imaginations?"
That is what the books are for. I had pictured what happened long before the movie came out and when I see it I will get to see another persons version of it.
Yes, the soundtracks are way to loud, the sound effects often drown out the dialog. One movie I watched at home I had to turn on the subtitles just to catch all the dialog.
I guess I better reread the book cause I honestly don't remember Barty Crouch Sr. dying in the book.I thought that he helped in the next book.Thats what I get for not keeping things up to date in my head.
Thats ok the wife did not remember it either.so I don't feel bad about it.Maybe old age hasn't gotten its slimey fingers around my throat yet.hehe
No no no... he died. They didn't really show it in the book, just talked about it at the end when they were trying to figure out what happened to him.

Interesting, my biggest disappointment was the portrayal of the Dumbledore character. I generally thought he was not portrayed as the subtle, powerful man he is as Harry's mentor. I thought the characterization was coarse and lacked an understanding of Dumbledore's role in the overall scheme of the story. It could be direction. It could be acting. It could be the challenge of turning a 700+ page book into a reasonable length film.
Mandatory disclaimer: The above is merely my opinion and is not intended as a slight to anyone else's.

I was commenting on Gambon's acting ability, which is very good. I have no idea if his portrayal of the Dumbledore character was true to the books, since I've never read any of the books.
