I've got another type of leather saddle, but get seriously numb down there after an hour or two. Do Brooks saddles get around this problem? Or would you recommend one of those saddles with the hole in the middle?

Cheers and happy October everyone.

I've tried many saddles, the ones with the hole in them are the worst thing I've ever used, they tend to pinch you after 2 hours or so. I tried a pro-link gel, it's a great and comfortable saddle for 90 miles then it quits, I rode it for almost a year and over 8000 miles, It stayed the same. I Now have a brook swift. I have ridden it for around 4000 miles, I'm winning, it's getting comfortable, I noticed that when you hop on the bike it's not that comfortable, after about 25 miles it gets like your favorite chair. For long days in the saddle I highly recmmend the Brooks. Break in takes about 700 miles. It is by far th best long ride saddle there is. I didn't use oil on mine I just rub in the proof hide supplied with the saddle.

Mostly my B17 can be comfortable for hours. Occasionally , if Im not sitting right I get numb, it depends exactly how you sit on them, or if you havent ajusted the saddle height/layback correctly, but that goes for any saddle

I do know that after 8 hrs in the saddle, my butt doesn't ache or hurt.

It takes about 3 weeks min to break in a Brooks with regular but not excessive riding.

Two years ago i did a three day tour without much training.
The only body parts that suffered were my "nether regions"
It was pretty sore down there for several days afterward..
I was using a standard synthetic touring saddle - no hole in the middle
The next year I had a Brooks b17 - broken in by my daily commute.
No problems at all.
I'm a believer.
